Suggestion Discussion / New Boss Monsters
« Last post by Raivo on March 30, 2026, 05:37:34 pm »
Since Giant Squid and Pythons can be a nice challenge to hunt, it could be fun (and hopefully not too much work) to have more "boss" type animals in the other more extensive terrain types, namely beaches and tunnels. So I'm suggesting a Colossal Crab for the beaches and dunes and a Colossal Spider for the tunnels.

Colossal Spider
Simple version: Just a stronger version of the giant spider. Something like 250-400 hit points, more damage and maybe more potent poison. One of them at a time walks around in the main tunnel system.
Possible extra mechanic: Has a ~5-15% chance to leave behind a web (see attachments) when it moves. The webs disappear on their own after a few days. If a player enters a tunnel with a web, they get stuck. They get a "cut webs" button if they have items suitable for chopping jungles. It costs 1 AP and has a chance of succeeding, giving 1 XP and clearing the webs. The player can alternatively try to move to another tile, with a chance to escape and leave the web intact (similar to python constriction).

Colossal Crab
Simple version: Just a strong animal that walks around the beach/dune tiles (maybe also shallow water). 1-2 at a time in the world. Possibly not aggressive unless attacked?
Possible extra mechanics:
- It could grab players with its pincers if it attacks. This could work just like python constriction with slightly different messages.
- Maybe its thick shell would reduce all damage by 1.
- Some interaction with the crab item. Maybe each crab in the inventory decreases its hit chance. Maybe it seeks out players with crabs in their inventory. This could be a fun way to make the item useful.
- Some interaction with the Conch shell. Maybe it always searches for it and grabs it if it finds it. Then you must kill the crab to get it.

Of course, both could have upgraded versions like the python and giant squid does. I added possible "slayer" badge graphics for them, as well as webs that could be overlayed on top of tunnel tiles. Note: They were initially made with AI, then shrunk down/edited and put on the empty badge background. Thus they don't look quite as good as the pre-existing ones, but maybe better than nothing.

I know it's unlikely Simon will add anything bigger at this point, but hopefully these could add a decent amount of new gameplay and goals without requiring too much work (at least not the simple versions).

    Just a few more ideas.
    • The ability to sell things to other players.
    • Trading as a Skill.
Harsher penalties for killing Peaceful Intenders?

Alrighty, well, coffee first. :coffee: Okay. Introduced to UrbanDead by a fellow Shade {mmwrpg} player name of YeloSnow. Hung in there for a bit, the much more level playing field, everyone being sitting ducks made room for alot of quid pro kills, you stab my back I stab yours, and it was contentful there. Then er there, I think it was, I saw an ad for Shartak in UD's bottom left side. I was on a late stage nearly dead WebTV at the time so my options for Online Gaming were saaad. Even for back then the time of limited choices anyways lol. :grandpa: I joined on in, from then it was a blur of personas, none of them I could fully settle into, mostly many based on my favorite TV Shows of the times. :motz: You might know a few. I sided with whoever sided with me, not knowing about the "you're not supposed to talk them them or we grief you" rules too well. :mfr_lol: Same everywhere really. Doesn't stop me from being nice to those nice to me. Started with 3, but inner restlessness and unexplored character approaches led me to pretiring alot of otherwise quite tolerable choices of potrayals. Many other times I thought I was just plain done, bored or stressed, otherwise not having alot of gaming fun gaming. :hurr: Game stressure's never worth the blood pressures. Many times I wasn't sure Simon even wanted me in here, hit to miss percentages got suspiciously wonky at times, waking up surrounded by tigers etc, lol like wtf. To this day, still not sure, but I am open to him politely asking me to leave, lol. :Sparta: I also run by the rule if you politely ask me to stop killing you I will, I don't kill peaceful intenders, and I try to save as many friendlies as I do enemies to the cont(r)acts list. I don't totally feel like a veteran, having switched faces and races so much I didn't set down roots, but to the halfhandful of folks that did know most of the me from then to now that was enough for me. :ninja: I've seen the tides of many different colors of outsider surf ebb and flow, the growth and decline of cultures of native flora influence the terrain, it's a great place to log in on the morning routine, do a few action points worth of mischief, and then resume that IRL game called "Life". :kittysleepsmilie: No, not a veteran, but maybe a proficient newbie. :hijack:
