Team Tathers has been notified.

We might be seeing some new people on the island.

Simon has stopped them from re-spawning so that should now see an eventual conclusion to the contest!

My pirate received a messaqe from Dani al-Gargle overnight my time. My pirate disdains messages, but it seems there might be some incidental confusion about the ships. There is a ship located at Midway, at the southern tip, called the Sulaco (named after the warship in the movie Aliens). It belonged to the now defunct Kraken Hunters clan. The other ship, the Disco Volante (named after the bad guy's ship in the Bond movie, Thunderball) is west of the shipwreck and belongs to Admiral Benzylmethylecgonine. (I'd actually like to move both so they become resources en route between well-visited destinations, as opposed to destinations in remote places, but whichever.) The Sulaco is where most of the mummy hunters are located, and where first aid kits will be doled out to mummy hunters imminently.

OOC: Good to know. Does that area west of the shipwreck get much traffic?

Nah, not so much. My pirate used to hide in the huts not far to the south-east (sometimes called Chastity, a York colony, sometimes called The Pirate's Rest, if you're looking for them on the Wiki) and then leap out and kill trespassers. That got stale as numbers fell away. That ship is a source of tricorn hats and unique bladed weapons. As I said, both ships would be better located, say, in the river near Pike's farm, the York swamp delta, or at the base of the mountain waterfall so as to assist people with resources as opposed to being a destination rarely visited. I assume new players might not even know that either ship is actually there, especially the Disco Volante since that part of the island really is a dead zone.

(I did have a conversation once with Simon and Jaqs on IRC about the prospect of me messing around with the code so as to add more decks, some cannon, some cargo, other stuff, but it never went anywhere. I also love the UX idea of a Spanish gold galleon as a resource and perhaps I can convince Simon that is a good idea for another contest.)

Part of the problem is not knowing the names of all these locations. I've only recently spent any real time in the forum, and outside of the settlements I've never heard of most of the places people talk about. I had to look Midway Island up on the wiki.

Yeah, the names and coords are all on Parchment Pages. Of course, it follows a naming and location scheme that was popular in 2009, so it's not completely accurate.

I've heard the name Chastity before but it was before my time. I didn't even know where it was. It's not in PP so I didn't connect the two.

Anyway, thanks for letting me pick your brain. Back to our previously scheduled programming...

79 mummies left in the second wave. Still plenty of time to catch up with (and overtake) mouse who is in the lead in number of kills.

Also, both healing herbs and first aid kits have arrived. People on the Sulaco have been patched up as have two swimmers. Ballbreaker Rockwell will be on the ship, fixing up the injured.

Much obliged...but won't you trigger the auto-curse mechanism by having two alts in the same place performing actions? That's why I dropped Lady of Spain out, because she couldn't be there at the same time as Scrubb.

IIRC when the zerg mechanism was put in place, the things that could trigger it included:

  • attacking alts
  • healing alts
  • passing items between alts
  • attacking the same character

Not sure of the time frame that these things are restricted to. But I believe if alt1 part heals a third party, then alt2 continues healing them it would not trigger the detection.

Yeah I'm trying to be very careful about that. Alt1 and Alt 2 aren't healing the same people.

DPH has run out of herbs anyway (the character is almost dead). Ballbreaker has plenty of FAKs and has been patching everyone else up, but obviously can't heal DPH.

DPH is a contestant and Ballbreaker is not. Ballbreaker is just there to keep players in the game. Dani, no prohibition upon Lady of Spain and Scrubb being on the same square. They just can't interact without triggering the curse of the ancestors.

Mummies are now all dispatched!

Contest results shortly but I'm guessing pretty safely mouse won given the thousands of stored XP he poured into it

All of these players will get the achievement badge: I'll follow-up Simon on that.

This was a very good turnout - 23 players. I wasn't aware that some of these players were in the field. It was also good to see so many older players in the mix.

And congratulations to mouse - master mummy slayer.

Nicely done, mouse! I decided to sit on my XP after all. I'm waiting for... something.

Well done, all- thanks for organizing, Daves, and thanks to Simon for the extra work.
