I think trawling is appropriate because the classes feel like being in a pool of sadness.

Dave is prolly referring more to the comedic syntax and general quality of the comic than specifically thematic or plot-wise similarities. I'm under this impression because there was a guy who posted a crazy japanese video and touted it as relevant to the thread, the other guy thought it wasn't. Everyone's right.
