Title: Team Tathers Tactical Talk Thread
Post by: Neil Tathers on May 31, 2011, 01:11:25 PM
Yay alliteration!

Time for things to go official.

To see the beginnings of Team Tathers, go here (http://forum.shartak.com/index.php/topic,3339.0.html)

What started off as a me and Cold Seether team up against a giant squid has become a following of the manliest men and women on the island searching for big game and even bigger payout.  No one on the Team is better than any other, though we will boast that we are better than one another.  Oh, we are smart too, just check out that word I use in the first sentence.  Spelled it correct the first time as well.

The clan is open to anyone who wishes to join.  I don't discriminate.

The only rule in Team Tathers is to have fun.  If you aren't having fun, then PERMABANNED!  Also, feel free to do whatever you wish.  This is for fun afterall.  I'm not going to drag you into the ocean for a squid kill if you want to go grow trees by a lake.

Let's use this thread as coordination so we aren't all searching in the same spot of the island.

I'm near the shipwreck currently.

~Neil Tathers

I'm a bit east of the shipwreck swimming eastward in the deep.

Oh yay, this thread!

I'd like to reiterate all are welcome.

The fact that we can conterminously wiggle our massively overdeveloped egos and vocabularies in such a remote proximity without explosions corroborates that our hamartia is kid tested, mother approved.

I'm restocking in Dalpok. I think I'll check south then. Yorkies are going to feel me very soon.

Post by: Cold Seether on June 02, 2011, 04:12:08 AM
Cold Seether is at the shipwreck. The pirates are all in Derby. The people of Dalpok are floating in the water northeast and northwest of the shipwreck. Seether might have to meet some of the Dalpokians so that they'll help him take a break from squid hunting in order to send the pirates back to their shipwreck. Or, maybe Cold Seether will simply keep hunting for Kraken and let the Misfits do the job they claimed to be able to do just prior to Seether shrugging and going off on vacation in the first place. One can never be certain what course to take in these troubled times...

I can help you with that if you wish. Turns out some of those very pirates still owe me one. Or two...

Team! Tathers! Assemble!

Milkchew, there are often giant squid in your location. Indeed, Ibn was killed by one east of the island a few weeks ago. Ibn will get to Skull Island and we can do a Team! Tathers! Marvel Superheroes Team-Up and fight Dr Squidlo. Ibn is out of bullets so it will probably be a short-lived team-up if we indeed find the squid.

I'm also keen to go on a shargle hunt and egg collection, soon, so if any Team! Tathers! Team-mates want to join in at the mountain, let me know.

No probs Fad, im now North West of the island circling it in a clockwise motion in the deepest deep.

Also note to the rest of Team Tathers, the Conch Shell is in this location, I heard it in from the north east of me, so by default (As I am pertty much as north east as you can get already) it must be VERY near by.  Would make a pretty captru for Team Tathers indeed.

Kraken Ho!!

No GPS, but a giant squid is two spaces north of the shallows. I APed out on her, but I'll try to lure her in in a few hours.

Im far far far to far ( :o ) away to get involved in this particular one, so ill carry on circling skull island and maybe snatching the conch on me travels.

She's under 150 HP, so with another hunter or two it won't take long. All I've got on me is machetes and knives, plenty of herbs if anyone else can make it over.

That squid is going to have a taste of my club. I'll have to suicide again, though.

I've lured it down to the shallows and near the beach. If you run along the water's edge you should be able to find us.

OK, lets see if we can find this thing.

Title: Re: Team Tathers Tactical Talk Thread

It is now on the South East side of Skull Island.

I was in the North East ocean above the skull island deep as far as you can get and got the message that I could hear it a great distance in the south so it must be just of the coast South East of the island.

Title: Re: Team Tathers Tactical Talk Thread
Post by: FirstAmongstDaves on June 03, 2011, 09:48:23 AM
OK, Ibn is close by to that location. If I can find it, lets experiment with it and see what it can do.

Cool.

As I said, im in the furthest possible North East section of the map in the deep and its coming from due South, so if you move up and me down we can sandwich this guy.

Kraken Down!!

You attack the giant squid with a machete for 1 damage. It dies. You gain 153 XP.

Thanks, Cold Seether and Broomhead. I'll continue swimming westward.

Think the guy stood on the same square as me as I just got a plain message saying I heard the square.

Already had it a few times, just thought it would be nice to experiemtn with it as FAD said.  In te meantime ill continue around Skull island.

I always miss.

I have blown the conch shell to my content.  Someone tried to kill me, but someone else saved me, and now I should invite them into the man team of the island.

I sold the conch shell for a quick buck.

Searching for another squid!

It's probably for the best. Just imagine six months from now: Neil retreated to a cavern rubbing the conch sensually going, "MY PRECIOOOOOOUUSSS".

Roaming the waters of Rakmogak. Someone found the conch.

Nah, was weird, the last I heard it was a couple of days ago with an alt over south of the mountain.

Eyes is now directly South West of the North East swamp swinging back onto main land then trotting along the beech then back into the deep to cover the ocean I missed off my mapping.  Should find a squid in a day or so when im in that big open space of deep below Rakmogak.

TALLEY HO TEAM TATHERS!!!!

Giant Squid spotted!

[-70.221,+26.546] Due west of the upper teeth of skull island, about half into the deep.

Quote
You attack the giant squid with a cutlass for 3 damage. It drops to 179 HP.

Think I may stick around for this one, but help is needed.

Edit: Down to 94.  Ripe for the picking for someone.  I have no darts, but 30 odd herbs, so I can keep him right in the same location for a day or two if needs be.

Title: Re: Team Tathers Tactical Talk Thread
Post by: Killian on June 12, 2011, 04:50:39 PM
Uhh, gentlemen... There's some entangling business I need to report...

Regaining your balance after what would have been a complete miss, you manage a glancing blow.
You attack the fully-grown giant squid with a machete for 1 damage. It drops to 306 HP.

[-70.235,+26.528]

If this is the same squid and valiant Milkchew went down for the team, by all means. If it's not, I can occupy it 60 herbs worth until everyone else arrives.

That is not the same squid, I can confirm that mine is totally seperate and very much alive.

We have a squid epidemic on our hand gents!!!

Two squid so close to each other, good grief Danger Mouse!

Wow, they are both very close. Ibn is very nearby, having loaded up with fungi. Will be there in the next day. Wonder if we can lure them together and start the "Shartak Squid Dating Service"?

The son of a squid got me good.

I bet you're wondering why I cropped the rest of the map out, well

I'm no expert in squid biology, but the squid seems to be hugging the edge of Shartak's boundaries and entering the westward bottleneck to the narrower currents. Avenge me!

Nice RP earlier, dumping the remains of the first squid at Ibn's feet.

Yeah, I had 6000 XP to convert to enable Ibn to thump the beast to a pulp with a club. Forgot about getting FAKs though. Bummer. The squid inflicts 8HP damage. And then another strategic error: I called on the roaming shaman rather than the home shaman, hoping there would be one near the swamp. But the closest roamer was Zakano, right over near the mountain.

So, a long slog home to York to re-supply. Good luck, gents.

Does that mean I am a Yorkman? Ow :-(

We would never call you a Yorkman, Muad Dib. At least not while you're in earshot.

So what's this about a Gator Genocide?

Thinking of having a gatorcide later in the summer.  Month long straight of killing gators.  Winner gets something, no idea what yet.

The winner gets a thick ear?

Sounds good though, itd have to be the north east most swamp though, maybe get a whole bunch of people to sacrifice themselves to gators before hand to get some nasty hungry ones in there.

Jungle

Here you can see some large bushes and some long grass but not much in the way of trees.

Here you can see Fist McRhinopuncher (69 of 75 HP).
Also here is a hungry python.

[-70.349,+26.400]

It has something like 150 hp left, crushing at 14 damage, wow. Please don't die any further.

And we need herbs, too.

Converted some XP and it's down to 60 HP. I burnt all my herbs, so restocking. I need to get another heavy sword...

Hungry python!

Alligator hunting is fun. Mostly because its hard work and there are plenty of them.

Roughly. It appears that either these things gain HP when they kill, or someone's been healing it, because the one hit I got in brought it to 81HP. It's also hitting back for 17 damage now, despite still being a 'hungry' python.

EDIT: Recent tracks can be found at [-70.340,+26.389]

Title: Re: Team Tathers Tactical Talk Thread
Post by: Neil Tathers on June 21, 2011, 11:24:35 AM
Found it at [-70.325,+26.376]

I'm two squares away as I have no AP left to fight it.

Title: Re: Team Tathers Tactical Talk Thread
Post by: Neil Tathers on June 21, 2011, 02:58:36 PM
I'm about to get crushed, and Maunder is in the same boat.  We are two squares to the southeast of my last reading.  If we don't kill this soon, it's going to become man-eating.

It's down to under 50 HP.  Don't waste AP healing us, just kill the bastard

EDIT:(2011-06-21 16:29) You fire at the hungry python with a blowpipe for 4 damage. The poison acts quickly, taking another 2HP almost immediately. It dies. You gain 163 XP.

You know what's weird?  Elephants.  What's the deal with those long noses?  Have you seen these things?  They look like big gray snakes.  It's like an elephant was walking through the jungle one day, just trotting along like they do.  I guess.  When all of a sudden a big gray snake bit it right on the face and decided, "You know what, I think I like it here.  I think I'm gonna hang around."

Its in the ocean in the swamp south of the cannibal island and due north of Derby.  Just off the north east coast of the swamp.

However, now it is in the bit at the very back of the swamp where it returns in on itself.

So, I was thinking that perhaps it would be a good idea to pay no heed to the Warning that pops up when posting in this dusty thread and just post in this dusty thread, so I am now posting in this dusty thread regardless.

I am currently about to reach Unity Island from the northeast, and I have, like, a lot of herbs, so I was also thinking that perhaps it would be a probably good idea to organize a squid slaughter with all those manly men and manly women out there who are rather tired of the haziness of the big-city-life and want to enjoy some time experiencing nature in its true form: huge, watery, squishy, and with lots of dangerous tentacles. And possibly maybe make some new recruits to our oily ranks!

I don't know if Neil is around? Sometimes I see him and sometimes I don't, like, you know, those things that sometimes you see and sometimes you don't, like shooting stars, or spiders, or your keys, or the Ghost Ship. If he's around then maybe he comes with a better idea or he can give a more impressive discourse than mine; people listen to the man with the pecs when he's talking.

Also don't punch me for threadomancing ;_;

I don't really get it, one friend told me that he didn't get his cloak either, and I got one delivered personally by Simon just after I had idled (it was that time I went away) and the only thing I did was post on the thread saying I would join. Perhaps he wanted me to come back because he is secretly in love with me so he is giving me presents :-[ Or something, I hope I don't lose my bear cloak after saying this :P

It would be nice to do it in the dark, in a narrow and humid cave, feeling the steam, sweat and heat of our close manly bodies rubbing against each other whilst we hit the most horribly shaped creatures ever. Seriously, what was God thinking when he made spiders, with their long and several legs and big asses and webs and ugh. I hate spiders, I would love to spend some time smashing them in the light of pec oil fueled torches this hot summer in the company of well-muscled men. I might even get a chance to grope Neil

The best way to find the cave is to follow the river from the mountain down to Pike's farm, which is located halfway down river. Cross the river to the east, and follow the Dalpok/Wiksik Road but only a short distance. From there, there is a southern road labelled Scythe Road which takes you the short distance down to the cave. Watch out for the Raktami frontier guard :)

Killed two more giant spiders in the Rakmogak tunnel along with half a dozen rats. Big XP-AP conversion cost though. Its easier to do this with a rifle than a machete.

Watching out for Pinkie Pie, a cannibal coming down that tunnel, who attacked me to half my HP. (Ibn al Xuffasch tries not to kill humans so Pinkie Pie lives on.)

I'm currently tracking "a native" down some tunnel (expecting a friend but hopes are low). Spiders freak me out, but I have a grudge against Pinkie Pie so... I'll resist the temptation of tearing the soft, tender but manly skin off your lean bodies and I guess I'll help you guys out. You know, because Neil saved me some weeks back.

I'm pretty sure I'm tracking Neil for some reason, however :/

edit: bwah! a spider found me! halp!
edit: if you are "a native" and were "recently" going south, then go back a couple of steps to find the hideous thing.

This is just good advice. If exact location isn't evailable, i can definitely settle for relative directions. Usually I can find my way using landmarks on the map, those seemingly useless dead ends and idiosyncratic tunnel curves for examples.

I also gave to gold a native named Hex and cheered "Team Tathers!" to him. Bit of a language gap, but he should get the message.

Over the weekend I popped up at Rakmogak. None of my characters had been there for a long time. Quite amazing. most of the village is overgrown. Extensive fires throughout the entire island. I saw only one native, standing in the lake.

I went to buy bullets from the trader. There were none, which I half-expected, but there was, remarkably, a heavy sword. I've never seen that before, a heavy sword for sale at a trader, and finding one in a place as remote as Rakmogak just seems odd. I assume it was sold there and was meant for someone else.

Anyway, back down the tunnel and now trying to find giant spiders to kill with my new sword.

Yeah, I kept getting "a native was here recently..." but I never quite got there. It's also easier to track in tunnels because you only have to track on forks and such and just keep going, and sometimes every now and again to make sure your target didn't die.

Neil had an interesting encounter, if this was D&D I rolled a natural 20.

Conu'co says “I'm told you're generally a decent fellow. There's a jerk just inside the cave named Hermit Crawmad who keeps attacking me. Any help would be appreciated.”
Conu'co says “I can pay in fungi juice. Here's a good faith gesture.”
You say “No problem Wiksikian, I'll keep an eye out for him.”
You say “I'm usually a peaceful fellow, but another peaceful fellow asked me to take care of you, so I feel obliged. Don't take it personally, just take it as a choice.”
Your intentions toward others are no longer peaceful.
You attack Hermit Crawmad with a machete for 3 damage. You gain 3 XP. They die. You gain 45 XP.
Underworld log successful .
You collect the head of Hermit Crawmad and clean it up before adding the skull to what you're carrying.
You climb outside.
You say “One skull as proof of payment for the Hermit Crab's head.”
You give a skull to Conu'co .
You say “I doubt he'll stop griefing you though, you may need to try your farming somewhere else.”
Conu'co has joined the clan Team Tathers
Conu'co gives you a heavy sword.
You say “Wow, thanks for the heavy sword Conu'co, seems like everyone has these now-a-days.”
You say “Well, the sunlight was good, but I got to get back to the spider hunt. Later.”

Had a brief chat to Neil just after that episode, I guess.

There's a disproportionate number of spiders in the tunnel to Rakmogak.

But there's also a lot of unfriendlies up that way.

Anyway, Ibn is having a refreshing swim to wash off the rat blood.

And in a parallel (as in the opposite side of the island) offering, I'll mention that there's about a dozen spiders and dozens of rats from the west side of the mountain continuing westward.

I'm about to die there because I got greedy! Avenge me! And even though it's unlikely, save me!

I would like to make a small suggestion concerning Rats. It would be fun to stuff them in a bag (maybe an empty seed bag) and feed them to the Python.
They might also like Wild Boar, being all piggy, but that's probably pushing it.  ;-)

I like this idea of filling bags with rats. Could be useful for distracting pythons, tiger, and such. Feed it a rat and perhaps it gives you a few rounds without coming after you. Would be nifty to let out a few bags of rats in a crowded room also.
A bag full of snakes would be awesome for this as well. Perhaps if you let out the snakes they'll randomly attack characters on that space.
Perhaps bats, and parrots, and songbirds.. crabs mayhaps?

Ixys would be most pleased with bags full of snakes... fun fun.. teeheehee...

I think it's interesting when people shuffle their characters a bit, because I'm prompted to think about what actor would be versatile enough to do either role. In this case, I'll go with Michael Fassbender, with a little make up/padding for either end.

The mountain insanity continues!

Tischalla uses a healing herb on you and restores 10 health.
Tischalla says “TEAM TATHERS!!! WINNAR WINNAR SHARGLE DINNAR!!!!”
N. Morich says “WHOOT!! way to go, not even the mighty shargle can withstand the Tathers Punch”

You attack the shargle with a punch for 2 damage. You gain 2 XP. It dies. You gain 18 XP.

You attack the shargle with a heavy sword for 5 damage. You gain 5 XP. It dies. You gain 18 XP.

You attack the shargle with a heavy sword for 5 damage. You gain 5 XP. It dies. You gain 18 XP.

Neil Tathers goes to charge in, then spots the goat and goes crazy with fury, "GOOOOAAAATTTTTTTTTTTSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!"

You attack the goat with a heavy sword for 5 damage. You gain 5 XP. It dies. You gain 13 XP.
Neil Tathers jumps back in after killing the goat, "LEEROY JENKINS!"

And then Neil promptly AP'd out.

I sir am doing the same, after a day of searching. Nothing immediately but we are closing in. Do not despair. I can smell it, it's out there. Unlike most of Shartak, we're playing a BIG game. Similar to one of them bigfoot shows on the history channel, except 'The Ghost Ship' really exists. And please, take this valuable time to make room for all the pistols yer about to obtain. Don't wait until the last minute.

I'm realizing that I don't really know anything about the Ghost Ship. It's one of the last mysteries for me on this terrible Island. Up until a few weeks ago I'd never seen the Conch either. Then I had it in my hands four times in three days, but kept getting killed for it before I could make it to 'civilization' to put it to use. Don't really understand what it does though.
Anyway, has anyone got any tales to share about the Ghost Ship? What can I expect once we find it? Pistols galore, apparently. What else? Fighting ghost pirates, wisdom from beyond... a way back home?

I was just wondering if Simon was involved. That's the second silverback I've come across at the edge of the jungle. Also, under normal circumstances, when hunting rhino's, I tend to clear out whatever animals I can. Figuring that there's a 1/? chance of it being a rhino or some other creature that spawns to take the place of each kill.

Jungle

Plenty of large bushes fill the area and some tall grasses are growing in the gaps.

Also here is a rhino, a rhino, a rhino, a rhino, a rhino, a rhino, a rhino, a rhino, a rhino, a rhino, a rhino, and a rhino.

They are no more restricted to the grassland. And they all move together as a tight pack.

I came across about 20 of them in the jungles NE of Wiksik recently.  I didn't get close enough to them to note if each I spotted was a pack.

Neil racked up four rhino kills, and a bunch of healing XP at the  hunting site.

It's more like a slaughter site now though with all those manly Team Tathers men there.

Psst... still a bunch of rhinos at the base of the waterfall, if anyone's looking.

I just woke up to this

You fire at the silverback with a blowpipe for 4 damage. You gain 4 XP. The poison acts quickly, taking another 2HP almost immediately. It dies. You gain 28 XP.

You attack the monkey with a machete for 3 damage. You gain 3 XP. It dies. You gain 8 XP.

I like to think the monkeys were the silverback's babies....
