Reaching level 10 without killing anything in a game whose core gameplay is killing is distinctively different...
it's what people make out of it, really
No, I'm going to agree somewhat, but not agree on what the core gameplay is. The core gameplay of Shartak (like Urban Dead) I'd argue is killing other game entities (whether they're other characters or NPC entities).
By core gameplay, what I'm meaning is the default mode of play - what's the base idea in the game. In Urban Dead the core gameplay was survivors vs zombies. In Shartak it seems to be Outsiders vs Animals, Natives vs Animals, Outsiders vs Natives, etc.
While the main page says:
Shartak is a massively-multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set on a mysterious island where natives and outsiders hunt and explore.
...It won't be long before they stumble across the villages and learn of the treasures of the tribal ancestors.
If you want to help the natives defend their villages or see if you can get your hands on the treasures from the island of Shartak, sign up here.
Shartak doesn't seem to have any treasure hunting or defending of the treasure

I'm not trying to say that there aren't other ways to play Shartak (I've done that with several characters), but I do think that the core gameplay is based around violence and conflict which is reflected in how the majority of characters end up playing.
