Actually, that's not the case.  Hitler was elected, but not fairly.  The Nazis used intimidation, violence, and a number of other nasty means to get into office. 


Sorry, but this statement rather corresponds to your own anxieties about democracy and the abuse of law within it than to historical data. Most people voted for Hitler and most people wanted what he claimed (like having a strong economy, being a "strong country" etc.). And it was all in accordance to the legislative system of that time. This democratical system has been improved a bit nowadays, but still both kinds go under the label of democracy and bear the same dangers, but also chances...

That wasn't my understanding at all.  Admittedly, my history of Nazi Germany is several years old, but my understanding is that Hitler's campaign was pretty shady, as was his pre-Holocaust rule.  His rule DURING the Holocaust was another story, in the sense that "shady" doesn't even begin to describe it.  Source?
