Ibn al Xuffasch, Arab astronomer and hunter of alligators and tigers, has found a new profession.
While taking measurements for the Royal Society of London for the Improvement of Natural Knowledge of the movements of the newly discovered planet Georgium Sidus at the south end of Hawkins Island, Xuffasch spontaneously found himself in a torrid romantic tryst with a beautiful native woman. Her eyes were as dark as a starless night and her skin was the colour of qishr, to quote the celebrated Caribbean poet Ricki Martin. If there was a bodice to rip, it would have been ripped, but this was a different type of Mills & Boon scenario. Telescope firmly in hand, Xuffasch was cast headlong into a romance that needs a bowchickabowwow soundtrack.
Waking on the sand the next day Xuffasch found his new love mysteriously gone and, quite horribly, lurid purple bite marks gouged into his neck. Xuffasch blames his love's disappearance and his own injuries upon the giant squid who haunt the seaways of Shartak and seeks vengeance with the motto: Architeuthidae mortia. (It has not occurred to him that the native woman might have skipped out before he woke up, and that he might have been suffering from extensive hickeys.)
Those who seek to hunt the kraken of Shartak are welcome from any village, town or shipwreck. The headquarters of the clan is on Hawkins Island, where the southern seas can be readily patrolled. The Kraken Hunters join together for only one purpose and once that purpose is fulfilled, they go about their separate lives.
Sightings of the giant squid should be posted here on this thread, so that the Kraken Hunters can group up and slay their dedicated foe.
The clan is not quite officially set up yet as Xuffasch needs a few more XPs to get there, but it will be shortly.

Tell me one thing, Giant Squid Old One friend of mine...
Why are giant squids in fantasy sometimes called Watchers? I know the LOTR one definately is, I think a couple more are, and Verbal Deception (Pirate Metal) has a song called The Watcer about a sea-monster.

When your clan is created I'd like to have my character, Dr. Livingstone, join. I know he can't fight, I just want to investigate the squids. However, I would be able to heal you and your men. I hope there is no problem with that.

Because they are charged with the sacred duty of spying on people having sex on the beach Honestly, I have no idea, but I may look into it when I get the time. Love it! " See Spot whimper in terror. Spot does not like the spells. What is happening to Spot? Oh no, Spot has burst into flames! See Spot burn. Burn, Spot, burn!" Hehe... pure gold

Excellent. Sorry for the delay, just need to kill an elephant or two and we'll be there. Uncyclopedia is a favorite of mine. Back on topic, though..........can squids be tracked?
I don't think so because even when they were on land they left no tracks. And being in water, one cannot leave tracks, of course. I'm thinking of patrolling the shallow water/deep water divide. If we find one, we put out the call, with GPS co-ordinates.

You ... can scout for squid. To a degree. First, you need a spirit, and one who is played regularly through the day - once they've spotted the squid, they can be used to report on the location.

I like your answer better than the truth. Talking of locations...where is Hawkins Island See Dark Ferret's map? Its the wee little speck of an island at the southern tip of the York peninsula. A number of my characters have spent some time there, since its also a good staging point for raids on York. It runs vaguely NE-SW and has never had an animal on it as far as I can determine. But its deep out to sea and so provides good coverage of the southern ocean.

Fortune has it that I am around York - I hunted a giant squid around that peninsula a couple of weeks ago, but I couldn't find it again after bringing it down to 250 HP.
