The South Shartak Trading Company (Est. March 28, 2006)

To the newly arrived and the longly settled alike:

You have come to this brave new world seeking your fortune, your adventure, or just your livelihood, and one can think of no braver undertaking than to conquor this uncharted wilderness. But with it comes the promise of fortunes great and exotic, as well as the need for items both mundane and essential. Where there is human civilization, there will always be trade, and to that, we aim to accomodate.

As of this day forth, The South Shartak Trading Company has been established in the hopes of opening communications and commerce lines to all known settlements on the Island of Shartak. We facilitate in the movement of supplies from community to community in hopes making our own fortune and bettering the lives of all those on the island. I am already trying to dangerous trek from Shipwreck Bay (the home of the pirates) via Derby, then York, for trade of their valuable rums and much sought after cutlasses. Someday I hope to establish other routes to and from Shipwreck Bay, and even create trading routes between the villages of the natives and the outsiders.

This enterprise is dangerous, but it does have alot of potential. Whom among you are brave enough to challenge the jungles and bring civilization forth?

Then contact The South Shartak Trading Company via this post. You may even choose your own trade route to take (at your own risk of course). There are even no deadlines... make your own pace, but since you are in it for your profit as well as the companies, it is hoped that your pace will be encouraged as such. Very Happy And since we know well the dangers of the jungles, know that any nearby traders of The South Shartak Trading Company will be glad to assist.

Would one of your people be so kind as to contact a branch manager of the 1st Imperial Bank? We're interested in funding some of your bigger transactions.

What exactly do you have in mind?  I, Songa, must confess that I have thus far had little need for funding.

Say buying up the inventory of one trader and taking it to another, with 50% of profits on borrowed funds paid to the Bank?

We currently have a lot of cash in Raktam we'd like to shift.

The trick there is that, unless the trader's stocks of a given item are overflowing in one town and practically empty in the other, buying from the trader isn't really feasible.  I typically operate by searching in supply huts and then carrying the items to another town.  I wish we could do what you suggested, though!

Really? Rifles from York to Raktam, blowpipes from Raktam to the shipwreck would be very profitable trading run.

Not especially.  The trader only gives a good deal if you're buying something he has in great quantities..  After the first few, the trader stops giving you a good deal and charges the same amount you'd make selling them.

With rifles and blowpipes, enough people have the idea you're proposing to make it not worth the effort.  Additionally, rifles and blowpipes never break, and there's no demand for them where the locals can't use them.  As a result, no one buys blowpipes in York or rifles in Raktam.  The best way to make money is to sell something that's in demand.  An example is selling first aid kits to the shipwreck.  They're in demand there all the time, and you can pick them up for free in any outsider town.  Am I getting my point across?  I appreciate your enthusiasm, but that's the way the trading system works.  Sorry!

I would have to concur with my colleague.

It is much more profitable for the SSTC to trade in trafficable goods that are usable, tradable, and always in demand. First Aid Kits and Healing Herb are such an item, is always in demand, is relatively light weight and always fetches a good price at the local  trader. I prefer to traffic in them myself.

And as for the banks... I must say that I do not really need to do any business with them at the moment. The assets of the SSTC are quite sufficient for our endeavours, and to buy up stock from others would  be inefficient. The only way I would see this as feasible is if it is the traffiking of rare goods, such as necklaces and heavy swords. But even then it is not good enough.

But I thank you for your time and your proposal nonetheless.

Never mind. Perhaps we'll do business when heavy swords proliferate at traders' huts.

It doesn't take much effort.  Most people just join up!  Welcome to the SSTC! Cheesy

Is that a shartak version of "when hell freezes over"?

No, people now know where they are, so it would surprise me if more of them show up.

I have returned!

Well, I had quite an adventure. Appearantly going native, marrying some crazed jungle lady and then watching as she ascends to heaven is now considered a trip on bad native mushrooms these days. But now I find that I have plenty of gold and nothing to do, and no hope of ever getting more gold than my competition.

Well, I'm still in it for business!

Lets get to the profiteering, my good fellows. I've heard alot of good and bad things about the island. The war in York is terrible, let me tell you, but the profit is there.

I also heard of the eco friendly trail by the Shartak Preservation Society. Though our groups have clashed in the past, I am glad to hear that they are taking their self interest and doing something constructive, instead of say... attacking us. Bravo to them! Use their trails if need be.

Now I go back into the bush. Keep trading, and bring civilization forth!
