The Internet/people would just change and adapt to cope with things if it did get too rough. Really, I think this thing has been blown out of proportion. Let's go down a list of what is currently wrong with America and people don't give a crap about...
Dangerous additives to food which the joke of the FDA refuse to govern/test, unsavory marketing tactics to the impoverished (This is especially seen with people using foodstamps, where you will see tons of junkfood products take a dive in price for the first week or so they are issued for the month), and horrific conditions in the processing of meat and slaughterhouses in general. Formula for infants that has been shot through with sugar and corn syrup, known to cause obesity and insomnia, among other things.
The deplorable state of the public education system. Some schools have much more than others, some don't have much at all. Consider larger cities where the focus seems to be funneling the children through the system without a focus on individual basis of education, and some cities (such as the one I live in!) don't even provide transportation if the student in question isn't three miles outside the range of the schools. Gee, it sure sounds smart to send children unattended for three miles in the early morning, doesn't it?
How about the fact that I've met three Vietnam veterans and one from Desert Storm that are homeless and penniless, without aid for the government? I can understand to a certain extent that they may have just blown their money away, but when I see a sixty-five year old guy with one leg hobbled outside the gas-station in the rain, begging for money, I sort of wonder.
So yeah, I think this SOPA/ACTA thing is for lazy people who want to feel like they're fighting for a cause. If you want to fight for a cause, fight for the desolate and impoverished, the ones too weak and tired to do so for themselves. Sitting on the Internet and making cute little macros or slogans doesn't do anything. Get out and make yourself heard!

I don't believe in cops, bosses, or politicians. Some call that anarchism, I call it having a :palm:ing heart that beats! I do believe in freedom and never giving up. Call my methods madness or call them luck. I do what I got to, to feel able to breathe! And if you quit your job well, you can do a little breathing with me.

Speaking of cute little macros and slogans, I looked at the image buttercup posted and noticed Maddox had added his sig to it. I took a look at his page because it had been awhile and saw he'd went on a long rant against exactly those sort of activist tactics. He wants a boycott, not people changing their facebook pages to anti-PIPA stuff or crying solidarity now.

I was planning on torching the White House in protest (I'm Canadian, you see), but that image just redeemed American politicians forever in my eyes.
Edit: er... they are American, right?

Yep, awesome! If you'll excuse me, I have a certain white-painted house to torch now.

They don't have a Congress either. They do have, however, the two finest chambers for housing poo-throwing monkeys on the planet!

No, these 2 laws are about pure greed, that only benefits the 6 parent companies that lobbied to get them made into law. By the way 1 of the 6 companies is Viacom which should shock anybody. Also it is really hard to get a copyright in the US, you need a lot of money to get good one. Most of the cost is legal nonsense. This is why my board games have not been publish yet.
