I dont doubt this has been raised a number of times
But I would like to face a super animal like a T-rex that appears you know now and then and has like
5000 HP, destroys huts on a rampage and in one attack reduces our HP IN HALF
The island has to come together as one to defeat this beast in battle etc

We got the kraken, we got the giant python, next we'll get the t-rex... but than how do we top that? where do we go from there? C'Thulu? Some other kind of elder god? Shartak, the elder god of... shark arkitecture? That's right, he's a god so frightening even the sharks worship him... and build him grand undersea structures. How do they do it without hands? I don't actually have an answer to that question.

I think the merit of this idea is that, while the python and kraken are passive, the T-Rex would be aggressive towards population centres. It would be very hard to balance though. Can't be too hard that a town can't get rid of it, can't be too easy or what's the point?
Rather than a super animal, you could just make a much more aggressive species.

A little off topic, but a hurricane or an earthquake would be cool too! Or disease or space herpes or bigger forest fires.

Scurvy or malaria would both add an interesting new dynamic, especially if they were region-specific.

Spend too much time up in that crows nest and you'll develop the scurvy.

Yeah, I think I made a suggestion about it once, but it would be cool if the swamps and grasslands carried a percentile chance for catching a disease when searching, but that it had both positive and negative effects, like a parasite that persistantly drains health but increases AP regen, or conversely, a berserker-like disease that lowers weapon accuracy but slightly increases melee weapon damage, or something that simulates the effect of getting drunk (staggering) but offers extra resistance to spirit wailing damage. And to recover you need an item that can only be found in one area of the map, or a special charm, or something like that.
@Zeek: That's a hell of a challenge. Scary stuff.

could be a supernatural creature fire serpent a monster than arises when the island has been displeased and goes on a rampage. Ignites any jungle it's on and (harder to code) destroys huts (which are restored only after it's killed).
instead of moving randomly it could follow a reasonably predetermined path about the island. going from one settlement to the next.
or to be somewhat fairer spawn one for each settlement. have them start at the mountain.

Those giant bones underground, seen in the caves, seem to hint at foreshadowing the appearance or return of some giant critter.
Mkole Mbembe?
Kasai Rex?

I'd rather C'Thulu. At least he'll eat your souls and then crap them out. The disease thing seems more in theme with Shartak. We need more stuff which would make us all die. Maybe make newbies immune to diseases for a certain time period although. Last thing you need in a new game is to have "Day 1: Caught the black plague today. Turns out I lose half my HP every hour! I'm so ed"

You can have my opinion. I don't use it anyway. Just when you thought you were rid of me...I got better.

On that note a contagious disease would be fantastic, especially if there was some specific thing that triggered it, instead of just being in the same square with someone or talking.
