Very similar if not the same as Urban Dead.
With certain huts, probably best if it was only custom huts or say each town as its own pre-defined singular hut, a townhall for example, you are able to barricade the entrances from non local people.
Of course this would work exact the same as Urban Dead, so the same script wuld apply i.e. Say the hut is in Wiksik, you cade it up to level `very strong`, now that means people from you own camp can enter, people from any other camps cannot, including fellow natives. The only way they could would be by smashing the barricade down to zero. You could also cade it right up to the max, but that would mean no one could get in, even your own camp.
Would add an extra edge to the game and a war side to things. Maybe put in a `capture the flag` style treasure individualised to each village / town, as mentioned in the previous thread i.e. The Golden Skull of Wiksik, The Pink Feather of York etc.

But you already have the massive advantage in your home camp. It's called the shaman.

Interesting, what are your thoughts on spirits? Would they be able to "float" through the barricades?

I am not thrilled at this idea. All this will do is bottle up all the level ones and what not and cause it to be a zerg point. Somewhere they can all wall themselves in, and piss about while never seeing the island. It serves no purpose, and would make no contribution to the game save giving a place for spirits to wail. Hell, only thing I can think off that'd make it worth it is if you could make a campfire in it's square and burn the hut and it's occupancy to the ground.

Also I hate any ideas that are lifted straight from UD.

On an unrelated note, the idea of being able to burn huts down to the ground is still a hilarious one. And has been the topic of several comments by my arsonist character who can never quite get the campfire roaring enough to burn down the medhut.

You can have my opinion. I don't use it anyway. Just when you thought you were rid of me...I got better.

It would have made the time I set fire to all of raktam much more satisfying, yes.

We should get rid of the grid system as well then, because it's too much like UD. On a less sarcastic note, I like the idea, but it needs to be tweaked (and have much more added to it ) The Pink Feather of York The Pink-and-Purple-Scarf of York* I think the obvious thing would be to use driftwood, and I'm not sure what else at the moment. In addition, certain classes could have certain advantages against the "barricades" or whatever you want to call them. For example: Scouts/Explorers would be able to enter the hut before the barricades are destroyed (close to being destroyed, but not destroyed) Soldiers/Warriors would get a 1.5 damage increase against the barricades. ------ If you are worried about people being shelled inside camps and villages, change it so that you can make weak huts with barricades anywhere on the island.

The grid layout is just what it is, a layout. It could have been a hex based board, but a square is easier. I accept taking layouts when you got your model from another game, but there in the similarities try to end. The fact is, Shartak is trying so very hard to be it's own game, and adding in things from another game does nothing to bring it originality. If I want to destroy barricades to get at the people inside, I would and do play UD. If I want open huts and shanties on a jungle island I come to play Shartak. And making huts has been discussed since BEFORE I quit ages ago. If my memory serves me right it was too hard to script.

Just for emphasis: Hexagons would be far, far harder than an XY grid, and provide almost no appreciable difference apart from the look.

Yep, it'd only be good or needed if this game was only live feed (every player on at the same time), and had flanking mechanics, or AoE's.. or Burst effects.. Huh. I don't get on here to play D&D either.
