I've been working on a persistent, browser-based game on and off for a couple of years now, and I've finally got an open alpha up and running. It takes place in a world resembling that of Meiji-era Japan, and will eventually be filled with creatures from Japanese folklore. For now, it's a grid-based PvP game along the lines of Shartak, Shintolin, Nexus War, Urban Dead, etc. Features include clans, clan warfare, item crafting, construction, a tiered class system, an intricate combat system, a robust event system, and more. http://kaiju.oddnetwork.org Click to enlarge

This is Haliphax from DIL, right? I remember this game being talked about then. You actually did it. I could be completely wrong but I swear I remember this.

I've joined, and it looks quite nice! The class progression bit on the forum also has me wondering what of classes will do what. Overall, it looks like it will be fun once everything is finished and there are people playing.

I don't believe in cops, bosses, or politicians. Some call that anarchism, I call it having a :palm:ing heart that beats! I do believe in freedom and never giving up. Call my methods madness or call them luck. I do what I got to, to feel able to breathe! And if you quit your job well, you can do a little breathing with me.

Aha, I actually went looking for this again a while back, but it no longer seemed to be hosted. I'm glad it's back up

Yes, I am haliphax from DIL/UD. Yes, you've probably heard about this game a while back. Yes, there is still a bunch of stuff yet to be added... but the core mechanics are all in place.

Weird.
How come your title is `signed up` and your post count is zero when you have made at least two posts in this thread alone?

Offtopic posts may not count, most forums have the ability to turn off counting posts for certain subfora.

I will admit, I've spent most of my time on the Shartak forums reading about groups, character backgrounds, etc., and not actually participating in discourse. I've never really been as active in any web game forums as I used to be with my Urban Dead group. Dunno why. *melancholy sigh*

Hi Haliphax, good to see you've taken the big plunge into what you realize can be a vortex of lunacy.
Does Kaiju have an official appellation, or are you just rolling with "Ancient Japanese MMO" for now? Either way, good luck with this.

Before I can make a character it says I have to pick one of two factions and I don't know what each one is.

@Killy: Thanks! I love tinkering with systems, so it's kind of a love, love-hate relationship. Nonetheless, I'm excited to throw players into the system I've developed thus far and see what their ideas are for improving it. As far as appellations, it's not actually Japan, per se... I'm just using Japanese folklore as the launch point for the world and its story. At some point, there will be supernatural monsters, spirits, and whatnot (both as NPCs and playable characters), as well as human NPCs.
@Katie: Right now, the factions are completely meaningless. I just chose the two Shinto/Japanese Buddhist creation story gods for the faction names. Currently, factions only determine which clans you are allowed to declare as enemies and allies. If enough people wind up joining, I'll probably expand the number to 3 factions and get some diplomatic stuffs goin' on.
