Any chance of a Wesnoth game anytime soon? I rather liked the one last year and was hoping we'd have more. I should probably have asked about this earlier... I almost certainly can't play (at least not if it's anywhere near as long as the last one) anytime after the 4th.
Also, I'd like to suggest we have a larger, more detailed map and a smaller amount of gold. It'd be nice to play a territory control game rather than a game of throw-everything-at-congested-front-lines-until-people-start-running-out-of-money, fight-for-five-hours-until-all-but-one-person-leaves-and-is-turned-over-to-an-NPC.

Dude, I'll totally play with you. I love Wesnoth but have only played with myself, but I'll give it a try with a partner.

Uh, as Witch Hazel pointed out, odd phrasing, but sure. When are you free? For me tomorrow, Sunday, or Monday would be best, ideally in the afternoons EST (Sunday would probably be best, methinks). Also, is anyone else interested?

I have the game. I've not played it much, I'm afraid, but I would be happy to give it a try if you wanted more players. I think that Sunday afternoon EST would be late evening here, which is good for me. IRC does not like me, but PM me didactic instructions and I will follow them as assiduously as I am able.

Sunday afternoon is rough, but I might be able to swing it. I can definitely do Sunday night though. I am EST by the way. Again, I've never played with other people before, just by myself, so I don't know if we will need anything other than the main download. Also, it is worth mentioning that certain armies are way fiddlier than others (some would say that some armies are broken). For your first time you want to be thinking Elves or Empire, and definitely STAY AWAY from Orcs, Dragon/lizardmen and Undead. I think Undead are pretty awesome once you get the hang of them, but they take some work. EDIT: Here is the Multiplayer tutorial: http://wiki.wesnoth.org/MP_CodeOfConductI'll read through this to see if I can make sense of it, unless you already know how to do the multiplayer option Alexander?

Ok, the multiplayer on wesnoth is not too hard to do.
If you want to host just join the official server and set up the game with a password (Usually we used Yadnom) and the name of the game to something easy for others to find (Wesnoth Mondays is the one I used). Add-ons are nice, Ageless era and the SX ones are the best.

Thanks Ether.
So, one of us would create the game and then the rest of us could just join that game?
With the add ons, is that something that if one of us does it we all need to do it?
One last question: I am observing a game and the characters are all moving super fast. Am I observing the game in real time? I mean are the players really that fast at decision making? When I play solitaire I am pretty slow.

I tried Wesnoth in the past; I have to say using a hex grid is truly befitting of the game, because it was a buggeringly slow experience much like a turtle's back.
But that was just a diversionary address to make everyone think I attempted a semblance of being on topic. What I really wanted to say was: I can't believe they didn't find the Baron's mayeskidsvisithereation joke funny. What do they do when they watch Cinemax, actually follow the movies' plots?

We are all in the gutter, but Killy is rolling around in it, really enjoying himself.
The Baron and Alexander don't seem like particularly obnoxious or impatient people, so I'm sure that we'll manage something equitable, pace-wise.

I can easily do Sunday night... I believe my only problems on Sunday are lunch, dinner, and sleep. However, that might be pretty late for Fester, so if we want more than two people that could be an issue. Especially if the game lasts anywhere near as long as the last one did, in which case it would end early Monday morning, so it'd probably be good to start early just in case. I believe we need to all have the same add-ons to use them in the game, or something, but I'd prefer to keep add-ons to a minimum for this time, if they expand stuff by adding races and stuff like that- I'd prefer to keep it simple, since none of our current players have played it much.

Yeah, turn based games are definitely slow paced, particularly if your used to Warcraft or Command and Conquer or some other real time. I like the slow life myself. Still, you should play with us, we should get four people for the game map with the four castles, that would be sweet. So, what kind of time window are we looking at so I can start planning for tomorrow? I'm all for keeping it short and sweet since I'll have work on Monday. I'm also happy to skip the add ons for now, maybe in the future.

I believe that I am five hours ahead of you. I probably wouldn't be able to play before about 8pm here - 3pm for you - but Monday is a bank holiday, so I could (hopefully) stay up fairly late, if necessary.

Starting at 3 pm sounds fine. I might have to take a break for dinner within a couple hours after that, though. Surcouf, is that OK with you?

Good stuff, lets shoot for 3 then. I'll let you know early EST if I have to bow out because of family duties, but right now I am looking free.
I signed up as "Baron Robert"
Will you create the game Alexander or do you want me to give it a shot? I'm happy to let you do it wink wink.
