OOC: I think the complaint is about one level 4 character, Eliza Day, who by happenstance got killed twice in two weeks by FAD: once up by the river, and once in the Misfit. That character was not protected by the noXP shield, so it is fair game. Having said that, I'm hardly about to grief the character.

There seems to be a lot of knickers twisted about the idea of Derby facing a recidivist murderer who has no regard whatsoever for his own safety or the threat of punitive retaliation by the Hanged Misfit establishment. Evil pirates are hardly a new threat (Sam Bellamy was the last pirate to terrorise 'Erby for a few months). I suppose I should be flattered that everyone seems flustered.

Even I can see you missed the whole point about Derby trying to keep newbies in the game FirstAmongstDaves. Seems you're more interested in trying to show what a great 'warrior' you think you are by killing them. pfft.

@Witch Hazel: Welcome to the game!

The thing you've got to understand Witchey (if I may call you Witchey) is that Daves hates newbs. He's always hated them and has sought to drive them away from the game. Only when they have stayed and become established does he begin to treat them like human beings. It is some kind of Buddhist thing. Personally, I've never understood it.

You're onto me, Mon Baron: I had no idea I was that transparent.

And obviously I created the clan "Newbie Welcome Wagon" through a deep sense of irony and self-loathing. (Not to be confused with "self-lubing").

Witchey (if I may call you "Witchey, too"): you are new to the game. I'm afraid you have mistaken me for a trenchcoater. My "great warrior" persona usually involves belching, farting, my pants falling down, tripping over my own shoe laces, and suffering from haliotosis.

I do like your "pfft" though. I might use that.

Pfft.

Pfft.

Wait a moment.

Hang on.

Here it comes.

Pfft.

Witchey, don't be fooled by the Newbie Welcome Wagon! Daves used the group as a front to get newbs to let down their guard before he pantsed them, dunked their heads in the toilet and then stole their credit card information. It was pretty :palm:ed up.

That is absolutely fair enough in my book. I really don't see why Daves is getting such a hard time over this. I do exactly the same thing myself with my more indiscriminate killers - I'd rather kill someone noteworthy, but if I'm low on AP, or no other targets present themselves, I'll happily look for the characters without Stamina or without the no-XP deterrent.

If we go around not killing every character who might get upset about it, or leave every 'new' character to reach level - what? 5? 10? 20? - we'll just end up with a legion of Drahkens throwing massive bitchfits when someone finally dares uses the 'attack' mechanism.

Don't get me wrong, I find a lot of Daves' actions and opinions to be unmitigatingly wrongheaded and egotistical, but you can't fault the guy for any of this. Maybe it's not particularly admirable from a 'professional' PKer's point of view, but it's not the same as griefing, not by a long shot.

You'll have to excuse my inexcusable pedantry. I have an intense dislike of people doing exactly what I'm about to do. But this whole matter has been sticking in my throat, and so I had a look at the profiles of the 'newbs' that Daves' is being hauled over the coals for killing, and thereby ruining theirs and Derby's game. A few things stand out.

•2011-07-25 22:52
±FirstAmongstDaves killed ±punklover - High-level character
•2011-07-24 22:22
±FirstAmongstDaves killed ±Fish Oil - High-level character
•2011-07-24 02:19
±FirstAmongstDaves killed ±Eliza Day - Created 2011-06-19, still only level 3, killed 4 NPC's and explored 1.1%
•2011-07-23 03:55
±FirstAmongstDaves killed ±Conu'co - Mid-level character
•2011-07-23 03:53
±FirstAmongstDaves killed ±flounder - Created 2011-05-20, still only level 0
•2011-07-21 22:04
±FirstAmongstDaves killed ±Jake Jackson - Created 2011-06-21, still only level 2 Settler with Scavenging and Haggling. SWORD FARMER
•2011-07-20 22:24
±FirstAmongstDaves killed ±clutch - Created 2011-06-08, still only level 0
•2011-07-20 22:23
±FirstAmongstDaves killed ±Jason O'Mara - Created 2011-04-12, level 2 Settler with ScaVenging and Animal Affinity. SWORD FARMER
•2011-07-19 14:30
±FirstAmongstDaves killed ±fluffhead - high-level character
•2011-07-19 02:12
±FirstAmongstDaves killed ±punklover - high-level character
•2011-07-18 03:31
±FirstAmongstDaves killed ±Philip Lemarchand - Created 2011-01-28, still only level 3

Of course, I may be doing the probable sword-farmers an injustice with my unsubstantiated allegations. They might just be extremely lazy and/or stupid. But any which way, this is hardly the hounding of innocent, eager new players that is being suggested. If anything, it's a culling. Anyone who's been on the island for over a month without getting past level three is hardly a loss to the community.

So what you're saying is.... Not only is he killing newbies, he's deliberately targeting the least competent ones! That's like kicking a three legged puppy!

Actually, the reduced weight makes them fly further and allows you to get your toe right underneath for maximum lift. But that's beside the point.

Out of 11 kills you listed 6 of those were level 3 and under?

I simply disagree with killing these low levels
