Dalpok: A down trodden and often raided native village south east of the shipwreck, north east of Durham, and west of the mountain. We are mostly cut off from the rest of the native villages. The pirates raid us daily, from single kills a day, to many kills a day, to full time raids. Our village has been conquered by the outsiders and our kind have been made slaves, including myself before my escape. Our village is empty most of the time with only a few pirate hunters stopping in for supplies. We have not kingdoms, nor royalty, no army, no guards, only victims.

I say it is time to rise up, crown ourselves a king, or a warlord, or a royal court. We need to form an army, fight off our oppressors and claim Dalpok a free village. I don't see a reason for us to be a ghost town all the time. We have an entrance to the caves a stones throw from one hut and a grassland on the other side of the village. We are at the base of a mountain, making our village a prime hunting location and fungi farming camp. Dalpok is to be free!

Yarr, this be yer problem natty, Dalpok's already free. Yon Natty elders chose naught ter have a kingdom when they were passin' out crowns. The one natty who did claim ter rule be mocked by th'other savvies an' chast out o' tharr fain quick, an' good riddance. Dalpok be the freest o' natty villages. it's all about culture, an' yer cain't be fiddlin' with yer culture, argh!

Naow if yer'll be scusin' me, I got some more exploitin' ter do.

You, pirate, will be punished for your crimes soon enough. I have just punished the pirate Droolbrood for his crimes against Dalpok. Soon, Dalpok shall have it's revenge on you horrible fiends for your crimes against our village.

Dalpok and the wreck are locked in a perpetual death embrace, where because of their proximity they cause enough havoc to each other to prevent government and order to prevail. The elders of Dalpok are more likely to be found being predatory in the jungle around the wreck than providing leadership in the village: the most formidable of the pirates are found in the huts of Dalpok instead of in command on the wreck.

In any event, ClickClick is violently opposed to a formalised leadership structure in Dalpok. Vercingetorix was a Lord of Raktam, but eventually threw the gig in due to lack of support, and became a roaming assassin instead. And then Blue Hummingbird established the seat of an Empire in the heart of Dalpok, which also faltered. Neither spend any time in Dalpok as a consequence of the absence of a Dalpok culture featuring something other than war with pirates.

Dramatis personae:

Justice Hart of York - leader of the Order of Patriots
FirstAmongstDaves - pirate and class act
Blue Hummingbird - Queen of the Dalpoki
Ibn al Xuffasch - Arab astrologer and hunter
Vercingetorix - roaming assassin

OOC: To be fair, it would be great if something could happen with Dalpok, but probably not a traditional kingdom system, since those are so hard to put together even with a lot of village interest (just ask Raktam and Wiksik). The shipwreck managed to put together a pretty good clan with the Black-Hearted Brigands, but only because attacking Dalpok/home defense isn't a priority for them. A tavern is also pretty much out of the question because there just isn't enough Dalpok RPers to maintain or probably even go there more than once. I'd say the best bet would be some kind of spirit hut/shaman shindig. Spirits seem to have an easier time staying alive (in a manner of speaking) and gaining xp, plus it makes sense to have a western spirit outpost for people unwilling to go all the way to Wiksik just to meet like-minded folks.

Another option--or another angle to take with the shaman bit--would be to make a clan open to Dalpoki and pirates only, as some sort of beatnik peace group between the two areas. I'd be willing to set it up myself (provided I could finagle a storyline that wouldn't be so completely out of character for Gorry) if there are one or two pirates/Dalpoki willing to throw in with me.

I don't like you because you're dangerous

Despite ClickClick having rarely left the village for over a year, I haven't seen any particularly greater proportion of pirates attacking Dalpok than from any other outsider settlement. Not in any sort of concerted way, anyway. A few more tend to wander by, but apart from Blackbeard, there aren't any that make a habit of it. Bothum did for a while, but I have more trouble from Nick McDigger than most pirates, and from Derby (the character, not the place) while he was active a while back.

Also, I think that primarily-RP groups are a currently a dipping trend in the game. All these things are cyclical, but the days of the Kingdom of Skulls, the Royal Court and the Commonwealth are over for the moment. What the game currently needs are groups that are more involved with the mechanics of the game - killing is an easy one, of course - so that their members have a clear goal. I would support something of that sort in Dalpok whole-heartedly. My own choice would be to kill every outsider that sets foot in it. But I don't think another hut where people stand around and talk all day is going to be what gets the villagers of Dalpok involved in metagaming.

That was out of character, by the way.

I'd also like to see something happen in Dalpok. What seems to happen, is that the few players that enjoy sitting around and talking, join the groups that already do that elsewhere and probably don't want to do it across the board on all of their alts. Raktam and Wiksik have cornered the roleplaying thing. Dalpok naturally strikes me as a warrior village, always has. What we need is a fresh leadership type and some players with no/few alt conflicts to take interest in the place. Personally, I won't touch it with a ten-foot pole, as I'll be trying to focus on my pirate group. But a Dalpoki force to be reckoned with would be very welcome. When we attacked with The Collective, it was pathetic and I'm even less inclined to try anything with a pirate as a result.

(Welcome back Bobby)

I would love to see an actually raid on Dalpok from you parasite bearing pirates, rather than the sludge at the bottom of one of your barrels coming to Dalpok to be slain by myself or a fellow Dalpoki. I have and will continue to raise arms against any invading outsider.
