Halloween is approaching.  and I was wondering, what do you people think is the best scary movie? Perhaps the scariest? Or maybe you rate it by what you think is the most entertaining or thought provoking?

Admitedly I never really liked that genre of movie, though I did like psychological thrillers. Saw and Seven... even American Psycho which was rather entertaining even if I found it kind of ridiculous at the same time. bznz cards.

Anyway what movies come to your mind? What do you like to see in the horror/thriller genre?

Those movies are one of the many reasons I love October!

In my opinion, these are the best horror movies:

1.) The entire Saw series.
2.) The entire Halloween series. (With the exception of the remake.)
3.) The entire Friday the 13th series. (with the exception of the remake.)
4.) The entire Nightmare on Elm Street series. (with the exception of the remake.)
5.) Freddy vs Jason
6.) Van Helsing (2004)
7.) Nosferatu (1922)

I'm a big Rob Zombie fan, but he butchered Halloween with that remake.

Not in this order but these are some of my favorites that scared me at times.

The Host (Directed by    Bong Joon-ho 2006)
Aliens
Phantasm
Jaws
Puppet Master
Nightmare on Elm Street
The Body Snatcher (1945, Directed by Robert Wise not the stupid remake)
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920, Directed by Robert Wiene)
The Saw
Hellraiser
Misery (not scary but great suspense)
Silence of the Lambs
The Thing (Directed by John Carpenter one not the other one)
Ringu (Directed by Hideo Nakata) Not the remake we made
Psycho (Directed by Alfred Hitchcock)
Silk (   2006 Taiwanese Movie) Director: Su Chao-Bin

Silence of The Lambs is indeed great! I can never get enough of Hannibal Lechter! The prequel was one of my favorite of the entire series.
Hellraiser is good as well. He always knows the most interesting way to torture a man! Grin

I don't care if people don't agree with me, but Paranormal Activity was a scary movie.  At 15,000 USD total budget, I was impressed.

I was not impressed, but it made some serious cash.

Midnight Meat Train was awesome! Cool

I'm too much of a wus to actually watch most horror films. But I read a lot about them. First off Phantasm sounds very interesting and I might have to see that movie My other problem is I am very picky about movies. So naturally I don't watch a lot of movies, even none scary ones.

But this is just what I find interesting here. Solemn says, "Paranormal Activities" And I've read enough about the movie to get that what people found most interesting about that movie and it's sequel was that you almost never see what's doing all the damage. Mortis on the other hand seems to enjoy movies with a lot of splatter, though I doubt Nosferatu is that bloody.

Movies I've seen that fit the horror  genre Saw which I enjoyed. I didn't find it scary though, just interesting. All the movies I listed in my first post actually, I didn't think of them as scary just interesting. I saw the old House on Haunted Hill, which I actually found funny. The whole thing about keeping an open vat of acid in the basement. Who thought it was honestly a good idea to keep that down there?

Anyway I'm going to look up Silkwood because I don't think I've ever heard of that one.

You might like The Host (Directed by Bong Joon-ho 2006). There is the one version with English subtitles and also an English dubbed version though I liked the subtitles one better. It is about a creature that has grown in the river from stuff that had been emptied into it a few years earlier. They really did a great job with the creature in this.

You don't have a vat of acid in your basement?

I have a Nelson 3250 with triple filtration and cooling. I like to keep my acid vat at a low temperature to prevent it from foaming over.

CyAdora has a lovely fume hood over hers. It's pretty spiffy. I haven't saved up enough money for the down payment to get one installed on mine.

Solemn's is carved from one solid piece of granite with an acid-resistant ceramic lining.

I hear Simon has a double vat set-up like the one from this year's Macy's Christmas Wish Book, one side with Hydroflouric and the other a sulfuric-nitric blend.

Anthor has a caustic fountain. I don't know what the heck his problem is. Always has to be Mr. Different.  Roll Eyes

Horror movies.

Well, I'm a huge fan of the old Creepshow. The one with the short serials? The episode in which Stephen King starred in involved a meteor crashing into the earth, harboring some very strange life which begins to spread. Good acting and good scares, written by Stephen King and directed by George Romero, I believe. It definitely packs some punch in the gross-out factor in the end where cockroaches explode out of every orifice of a man's body.

The original Dawn of the Dead (for obvious reasons)

Monster from the Black Lagoon. I love old horror movie monsters, and the monster takes the top spot. Except for maybe King Kong, which I sort of place in the 'Giant Move Monster' category, and everyone else does too, do meh.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (original).

I can't think of anymore now as I just woke up. But horror movies rock!

I do like the bloody and gorey ones best, but Nosferatu was the beginning of horror movies! It's a piece of film history. I found it entertaining, but it's also out of respect for Murnau's work.

Oh! It's based on a Lovecraft story! I'm instantly interested now.

In other news Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a beautiful movie.

The book is so much better it's not even funny.  So much more graphic, too.
