I see our awesome MOD team hard at work splitting IC threads when people start being OOC.

Would their be some way to have a micro-thread so that comments can be posted without driving the real thread into "needs-split" status?

Maybe a pop-up or roll over OR leave a "comment" instead of a reply ?

If I can make a few picts to illustrate my idea, I will.

Well, I think that just by simply differentiating with a simple OOC and IC thing like the following would be okay. But that's just me... and some people already do this:

EXAMPLE:

OOC: I think this thread is actually quite relevant in order to prevent misunderstandings.

IC as Vicious: Heh. *smashes the thread to smithereens with a gnarly club*

There could be other ways though.

Sorry Vetari, but that solution :  "marking IC or OOC" fails consistently.

If the OOC replies to IC, were not able to be replied to themselves, there would be a solution.

If 'comment about a post' was an option rather than just a  'reply'.

I enjoy the crude, childish humor that comes from derailing just as much as every other non-mod does, but I do think there might be a different way to add IC/OOC comments with out ruining entire threads.

There's a Spoiler tag plugin for Simple Forums, that I have on my LR forum... See link below for working sample:

http://lightrising.com/forum/index.php?topic=191.msg3577#msg3577

It could be used for OOC comments in an IC thread. Obviously not enforced, but if a number of our users would use it, it'd make the IC threads a lot more IC!

It has two or three different options... I have mouse over to reveal turned on, but there's also click to reveal. Miko turned me on to this.

That sounds like a pretty good idea actually.  That way those of us who want to read the rp can cut the OOC crap.  Makes the mod's job easier too since, if something is OOC, they can just spoiler tag it instead of having to either remove it or move it around.

It's not going to solve the problem.  The animosities, no matter who tries and how hard, still fester.

What the spoiler tag thing would entail would be little more like slapping a big surgeons' warning on cigarettes, or making them big, black, labels of "Cancer!"  People will still smoke, people will still snipe and sneer, and people will still read.

I have no problems with further mod actions on OOC troubles or derailed threads, but the IC/OOC betterment will come from the players, not the forum's mechanics.

Yeah, they can put crap in the spoiler tag... but we don't all have to see it, right?

I definitely believe this is an option to keep some of the OOC comments from affecting the IC flow. It's not a solution to stopping offensive people on the forum, that's still in the hands of the mods.

True enough.  Multiple offenders and blatant rulebreakers should enjoy bans and warnings aplenty in the future, I would imagine.
