Always wanted to go to another country.

Actually, chances are I'll one day head over to Japan.

It's my girlfriend's dream of the  ing century. Of course, some of the info from this thread may very well discourage her.

From what I have heard, it is more about how you 'act' than how you look. As in, you do not, ever wave your arms and make big movements. Being quiet and with tight personal space is how to -blend in-.
I remember well, being spit at (not on) by old women in China because my knees and or elbows were showing. It was 110 deg F / 43.3 deg. C. 

I hope that doesn't happen to my girl. She has a notoriously short temper and throws a pretty damn good punch. (What can I say, I like'em feisty, heh.)

If people in Japan are that intolerant I might consider bringing large amounts of bail money. Undecided
