The Turning of Akiak((We are standing in the Orwhan sacred swamps East of Raktam where the sound of humid swamp wind can almost be heard whispering the name:
Orwhan. ))
Nokomis says “According to the Orwhan lore of the past most Orwhans will have had you drink their blood to turn you. Since Caranae and I are Spirit Dancers we can manipulate the aether from the spirits themselves.”
Nokomis says “We do not make inferior Orwhans by using our blood but the aether from the pure spiritual form of our Elder Que'eldi himself .”
Nokomis says “This was how Caranae and I were made Orwhan. ”
Caranae shifts on the sand and her eyes open. She gets to her feet and dusts herself off a bit.
Caranae begins to walk towards the swamp. She looks back and lifts an arm calling everyone to follow.
Nokomis says “Akiak. Follow me. Say nothing or do anything.”
Caranae says “I believe it is here. Let me see...”
Caranae circles the area looking for something. She stops at an unusual shaped rock and smiles. Closing her eyes, she lifts her arms and her tigerpelt cloak falls to the ground.
Nokomis 's eyes glow silver as she heads to the rock formation in the middle of the swamp. She breaths deeply and sighs happily before seating herself there.
Caranae says “In the name of Que'eldi and the elders that came before us, we present you another who seeks the path of the aether. We ask for your assistance in making this Eaa one of ours.”
Caranae bows towards the rock and a strange wind picks up.
Nokomis laughs loudly as the wind gathers and lifts her hair. She pulls her drums from her sack and gets into position, a low beat blending with the shifting breeze.
Caranae turns her attention to Akiak. "You have proven yourself in battle against the many toothed enemy of the swamp, Eaa. Now is time to prove you can handle the power of the ancestors."
Caranae slams a foot to the ground, her seashell anklet clacking loudly. She does a slow deliberate march around the rock, slowly rocking her hips back and forth as she picks up speed.
Nokomis 's face becomes serious as her palms hammer out a loud and complex tempo. A heartbeat fills the swamp and the clouds begin to cover the sky.
Nokomis says “Spirits who have tasted life of their own. Spirits who withstand time. Spirits who brought forth our brethren. Be here now and sing with us. ”
Caranae stops in front of the rock and turns towards Akiak. She lifts her arms into the air and the breeze shifts. A sudden noise can be heard from the rock behind her.
Nokomis 's eyes flash silver as the low hum mixes with the drum beats. The heartbeat grows louder as she adds another pulse to the rhythm.
Caranae knocks her hips back and forth in time to the steady beat. Her feet slapping out a counter rhythm in the mud. Her arms intertwine as she arcs her back.
Caranae rolls her upper body slowly, her hips and feet keeping the beat as she begins to turn in a circle.
Nokomis 's head turns to the side as she feels the success of their mission. She smiles at the spirits that begin to form around the new Eaa.
Caranae moves her way over to Akiak. Her eyes glow an unearthly bright silver as she stands before him, nothing but her hips keeping the dance alive.
Caranae says “They have come, but are you able to accept their gifts? Dance with me Eaa...”
Caranae puts her hands next to Akiak's head and her whole body comes to life with the heartbeat rhythm again.
Nokomis starts to increase the pace. Her eyes now unusually bright, certainly not human.
Caranae shakes her hands as she moves them up and down the Eaa in front of her. Never touching, but leaving behind the sense that many laid their hands upon his being.
Caranae twists into limbs breaking angles as she seems to pull the air around Akiak. Smoke rises and falls as a mist begins to cover the entire area.
Nokomis watches the mist as it forms becomes more solid around the dancer and the Eaa she had found. She lets out another loud laugh and increases the tempo once more.
Caranae untwists slowly as she pulls silver threads of light from everywhere around her. Each movement of her body brings another silver strand into the mix.
Caranae lovingly twines the threads into her fingers as she slides her arms up her body. She makes her way over to Nokomis.
Akiak slowly yet smoothly stands to face his fellow Orwhan.
Nokomis slams a resounding note into the air as she stops the drums altogether. She takes a deep breath as Caranae holds the threads out in front of her.
Nokomis puts aside her drums and grabs the threads. She makes her way over to Akiak.
Caranae 's eyes flash silver as she sits down next to the rock. She closes them slowly and goes into a meditative state.
Nokomis grabs and holds Akiak's head in her hands. With eyes flashing silver and in a whispery voice she says..."This is going to hurt. I hope you can take it."
Nokomis lifts the hand with the silver threads towards the Eaa's open mouth.
Nokomis shoves the threads down the man's throat and steps back as she watches him writhe and wretch on the ground.
Nokomis smiles as she sees the silver light spread through his body, moving up and down with his blood and making him almost transparent.
Nokomis says “If you can survive you will see a new world. I hope I was right about you.”
Nokomis goes and sits by Caranae and starts to meditate...waiting for Akiak's change into an Orwhan.
Akiak eyes snap open, a bright silver glow coming from them. He slowly stands, slowly making his way to Nokomis and Caranae.
Akiak lifts his right palm to his left shoulder. "Ay, Sister Nokomis. Ay, Sister Caranae."
Caranae stands and lifts her right palm to her left shoulder. "Ay, Brother Akiak."
Nokomis lifts her right palm to her left shoulder. "Ay, Brother Akiak.”
Nokomis hands Akiak a beautiful dagger with a copper hilt. “May you use this dagger well."
You give a dagger to Akiak.
