I'm curious about this new skill. What level and other skills are required before a pirate can learn it? I'm also curious to see if a vicious parrot can be tamed and whether or not it will be aggressive, etc. Can they be attacked? How well do they retain speech. Please post any information you've got here for my petty amusement. Thanks. I figure it'll need to be gathered for the Wiki anyway.

The skill has been added to the wiki. All information on it needs to be verified though.

I'll let you know what I find out. Also this new pirate talk is pretty fun, wouldn't mind it being a toggled option for pirates.

My native was in the middle of role playing killing a tiger with another char when I started talking pirate. I was startled there for a bit.

My pirate is greedy, like a good pirate should be, and after taming his first parrot last night, tried this afternoon to tame a second one. In the hope that they'd breed and he could sell the eggs, or maybe that they'd fight and he could take bets on the resulting parrot fighting league, but no joy. The parrot doesn't like the one already on your shoulder and refuses to be tamed.

I figured I ought to finally give a serious go at freebooting, so I'll be testing the level requirement for Parrot Training. Let me know if it's it's own skill or if it's a branch from something else. I'm assuming it's probably a Level 5 or 10 requirement.
As for pirate talk, seems that every class is doing it regardless of class or audience. My guess is it's just Simon havin' a laugh. It's actually pretty neat though, and if there were some way to make it an option for pirates to toggle on and off, I think that'd be pretty righteous. Not sure how long it'll last,

Costs me 1800XP to get a new skill, and XP-AP conversion is too handy, so I might pass on this unless there's some real value to it.

I believe that although this skill probably doesn't really help pirates mechanically, it could pay off RPwise. For me at least, since Little Bunny Foo Foo hates both pirates and parrots now he can kill two birds with one stone... or, a bird and a scalawag with one stone to be precise. Also I've been sort of trying to hint that his parants were some how killed by a pirate, one with many parrots... hence his hatred of them. Although he remembers not who they were he wishes to find them and enact revenge.
Also one could play a pirate that is only a puppet to an evil parrot. I might do that with Abyll. the cheesy over the top b-movie possibilities are endless!

I think it'll be pretty cool. It'll bring a lot more parrots into huts and gatherings, saying random stuff in the midst of role-playing. Nice little bit of flavor.
