I'm using Windows, it doesn't seem to show up in All Programs. I specifically checked this box to not add a shortcut or something.

I found I can access it from Tools->Downloads, which is good for the short term at least.


Ah- Well, it seems downloads re-installs it, but since I hadn't done anything but the tutorial that's no problem, and it allows me to add a shortcut. Which is in a new "Battle for Wesnoth" folder, making it rather obscure. Ah well.

Edit2: actually, I'm not sure- I just noticed Load Game, and it says games are saved automatically when you complete a scenario- not a campaign. Does this mean that losing a later scenario allows you to load an earlier save from that campaign?

You COULD access earlier saves, but I save at the beginning of every turn, just to be sure.

Actually, it looks sorta like it autosaves at the beginning of each turn as well. I get a number of saves for each scenario even though I've never deliberately saved. I go back to the beginning of the scenario anyway, to avoid entering partway through where I'm already losing.



Edit: been playing a fair bit by now, a good ways through the novice campaigns... I've played a part of The South Guard twice now, and is it just me or are footpads [expletive deleted] super soldiers? I've actually had units take serious damage from one when it was several units vs. 1 footpad. The game says your spearmen can make short work of them in the daytime but really, that's a complete lie. They're seriously tougher than the standard mooks in the portion of the campaign when you face them.

THANKFULLY I've gotten past that bit and am now in the underground tunnels bit. There are some pretty tough enemies there but at least they're not annoying like [expletive deleted] footpads.



Edit2: Wait... this was postponed until tomorrow, right? I noticed the date and was feeling really stupid having thought it was tomorrow, then noticed Ether saying it might have to put off until next (this) week.

Assuming it was postponed until today- is IRC absolutely necessary to participate? Is there no in-game chat or anything?




If it is absolutely necessary- I've been getting connection timed out errors on every server I've tried, including on a different IRC client. I simply cannot load a server, and I can't ask about it where I probably ought to because for some reason the How to get/setup IRC thread is locked.
I'm also not seeing a "channels to join" blank anywhere, that could potentially be the problem.

I'm using X-Chat 2 and following the instruction from this thread to the letter (except that the "server list" appears to be named "network list" on my computer), up until step 6 which I appear to be unable to do.

It's not 100% required but it makes it easier to run.

I'll be putting the game up at about 9pm GMT and keeping it going till about midnight.

You'll need to redownload and update wesnoth (it's all on the front page) as well as the addons.  Mapwise we should be fine.

The game is still going on at the time of this posting, although CyA and Ahnaom both replaced by bots. Now it's gotten truely epic- a great struggle between human and machine (with the humans aided by a struggle between machine and machine ). Oddly enough, the humans are the ones in serious trouble (I think this is largely because of what they were left with- Cy had a really awesome, overpowered race while Ahnaom had an army of something like 40 units, as well because I was unprepared when he was replaced by a bot and thus attacked me. (we'd had a nonaggression treaty beforehand and he'd insisted on me keeping my troops away from the border. Curse you, Ahnaom, curse you!)

Right now it's been sorta wavering back and forth, both between player and NPC and between green and purple, the two NPC sides, though the players are basically retreated into the inner areas, and purple generally holds dominance over green. Still, there was a time when Buttercup had serious hopes of getting through to green and killing it's leader.

Now, as I typed this, the green leader has exposed himself, and Buttercup and I are both taking serious risks to try and reach him. (well, I honestly have little idea what's going on with Buttercup thanks to the fog, but I definitely saw him get attacked, and I presume it was by buttercup.

How do I get on, I've got all the stuff downloaded. Might just check it out for a few to see if my connection can handle it for next week. Do I need to get on IRC or just join a certain server on the multi-player with the game loaded?

Oh yeah, so, a couple notes for future Wesnoth Mondays: First, there need to be restrictions on what factions can be used (the one CyA had was RIDICULOUSLY overpowered), second, some way needs to be found to make the battle end in a timely manner: I would suggest greatly reducing the amount of starting gold.
