Yep, I'm going to revive it again.  Since last time it petered out with the whole KOS/KOW thing.

For those of you new here, Wesnoth Monday is pretty much what it says on the box.  A game of Battle For Wesnoth, Monday evening.  Why a Monday?  Because Monday is THE crappest day of the week and Wesnoth Monday gives you something to look forward to at the end of that longest of days.

What will you need to play?

1.  A copy of Battle For Wesnoth 1.8.4, downloadable from http://www.wesnoth.org/
2.  The following add ons (to install simply run wesnoth then click add ons, look for one listed, select it and click ok)
     Ageless Era
     Mercenaries
     SX collection
     SX RPG Addon

Do please note that the first time you play the game will take some time to build it's cache.  Do not be alarmed, just let it get on with it.
3.  Access to the IRC, the channel will be posted here on the day.
4.  A sense of humour.
5.  Alcohol (optional but it adds to the fun)

If you can manage these things?  You're good to go.

Usually we start up at about 9pm GMT and run till 1am.

So head on down, meet your fellow players in a non-shartak environment and make your Monday just that little bit better.  We do advise you get it set up WELL BEFORE this time.  Please post any question/difficulties you have up on here.

I can't seem to get it compiled. Apparently a lot of the things Wesnoth needs to run are out of date in Ubuntu Hardy's repository, so I've had to download them manually, but one of them I'm stuck on... gzip support in libboost-iostreams. After much fruitless googling I posted my question on the Wesnoth forums, but we'll see if anyone knows anything or not. Tongue

Dunno if I'll be available on Monday, but if I can't get it working it'll be moot anyway, as 1.6 (which I've got) isn't compatible with the new one.

Hmmm....I just might get into this. Probably better than playing GBA games on an emulator, like I usually do on Monday. Roll Eyes

Never heard of this, but I'm liking it so far. Not sure how my connection will handle a real fight, but I might try it out. The campaigns run fine and I've been able to get the add-ons no prob.

How does the multi-player work? Who will be fighting who?

It depends how many show up.

If there are only a few then an RPG style (SX) game works best.  Short turns and the like.

Otherwise a nice 9 way melee goes a long way to making the evening fun ^_^

I'm still getting myself acquainted with Wesnoth. I'm breezin' right through the campaign scenarios. I haven't tried multiplayer yet, but I'll be there come Monday. Just not til 5PM EST.

Dang... losing a single battle makes you restart the campaign? I suppose that's reasonable, but I didn't realize it and sent that healer guy in The Southern Guard into danger. Just wanted to warn other newcomers to the game of this!

Anyway, it seems interesting, I'll probably be there.

Edit: One issue... after closing it, how do I re-open the game? I quit playing for the day and then decided to install the add-ons, but couldn't find a way to "run" wesnoth. I probably should have added a shortcut...

If you're using Windows it should be in All Programs, plain as day. You can just drag it to the desktop.

I'm using Windows, it doesn't seem to show up in All Programs. I specifically checked this box to not add a shortcut or something.

I found I can access it from Tools->Downloads, which is good for the short term at least.

Ah- Well, it seems downloads re-installs it, but since I hadn't done anything but the tutorial that's no problem, and it allows me to add a shortcut. Which is in a new "Battle for Wesnoth" folder, making it rather obscure. Ah well.

Edit2: actually, I'm not sure- I just noticed Load Game, and it says games are saved automatically when you complete a scenario- not a campaign. Does this mean that losing a later scenario allows you to load an earlier save from that campaign?
