There is the Shartak Fire Department... but it neither seems large enough or organized enough to actually combat the flames I've seen spreading across this island. Particularly the western half.

I suppose the fires do seem to be well contained... I'm actually quite surprised to find that there really isn't an organized clan devoted to stamping out the fires. But this just proves to me that if there was an organized group, we could do a lot better.

So I'm wondering if a few of shouldn't start such a group. Possibly two, one for each half of the island. There is The Shartak Fire Department. but they're small, they're not mentioned here in forums. I don't think there is much communication going on there.

So if anyone's interested, let's talk... let's make this happen.

The Shartak Fire Department is as organized as it needs to be.  Loosely-knit clans actually offer the best sort of services here.  For specific outbreaks, regional clans to the dirty work.

The SFD did glorious work during the second Durham Wildfire, containing the outbreak from the rear and working forward to meet up with our own efforts.  Between them and New Haven, we stamped it out before the so-called local government could even react.  If you get too specific, you will never have down-time to resupply and you'll be wandering around aimlessly for the most mediocre of blazes.

This idea does have its merit, though, but I feel that it would be better to lump it with the SFD.  I'm sure someone from the SFD will contact you shortly.

I've joined the shartak fire department. not including myself there are three active members. One could use this helpful map to locate arias with where fires are about here. Well, you already pointed this out in the other thread. now that I've looked around a bit.

Also what is to be done about arsonists?

The ubermap isn't updated in realtime though, you don't want to bog yourself down with that.

Most of the fires in the west have been contained.

That clan has sorta broken up... arsonists are hard to organize.  Grant Beacher's Ghost was part of the clan and she started the Midway Island fire that took out the tower (sorry!), and the clan lit up Unity Island... now we all do our own things.  Grant Beacher's Ghost doesn't even start fires anymore (allegedly), now that she's found some direction with the PF.

I think your best bet is to announce to the Fire Department when you see an arsonist in action, so that everyone can go and stop the fire and kill the lunatic.

I know, as far as I can tell it's updated through a number of people with a firefox add on? That perhaps updates as they move about the island... I may or may not have any idea what I'm talking about.

The UBER MAP is very useful, but it only updates as a player using the Greasemonkey script with a working GPS unit walks over an area, and even then there's a slight time delay. Sometimes this can be misleading, especially with wildfires, since they can get broken up with new and old displays of information intertwined and the red hot spots start to scatter out all over the place.

I still highly recommend using it. It helps keep track of areas you've already cleared and is just handy for overall travelling.

You want to help with fires?  Above York there is a fire raging out of control, just south of the twin lakes.

I thought here would be a great place to share how proud I am with myself and my fire fightering skills.

There was a fire raging near the shipwreck when I started my pirate Plunder. Well I instantly started cutting trees around the fire and eventually made my way ALL the way around the fire and now have contained it as it starts to smolder out. Hurray for me!! Hope the Fire Department gets going soon I would hate for such a good idea to just die and never come back.

Rachel Stone was an active member of this guild.

Considering she's dead now, you need to find a new hot girl to flame dance with.

haha well i would need to find anyone in the group to do anything with. Which reminds me of something.

I have no clue what to do besides cut around the fire. I know water puts it out but I don't know how to do that. Could someone please PM me a Firefighter's guild on how to do this kind of stuff for dummies type of thing??

Not sure if there's a guide, but here's my take on it.

When cutting, just make sure you clear-cut all adjacent squares to the wildfire, as fire can spread diagonally and many tend to overlook the diagonal squares when they're first starting out, which entirely negates their efforts.

As far as extinguishing wildfires, water, salt water and even alcohol and brewed drinks work towards putting the fire out, but the process is seldom worthwhile for wildfire. Considering the time and energy it takes to fill and pour, running back and forth to water sources, searching for and using healing herbs on yourself and carrying a ton of bottles and gourds, it's usually better to just focus on cutting around them. If you do extinguish by pouring, you simply stand on the burning square and pour the desired fluids. In your inventory, next to your liquid containers, there's a menu that you can scroll and select Drink/Pour, set it to Pour and click the item to pour it on the ground you're standing on. You'll be burned with each pour, taking 5 damage each time, and the fires can take anywhere from 1-12+ pourings, depending on how long the spots been burning and the strength of the flame. I think I had one that took close to 15 pours once.

Campfires are the cause of wildfires and a blazing one can usually start the process within 24 hours, so if you see campfires unattended on jungle, clear-cut the square that it's on, otherwise there's a good chance it'll get out of control and catch. If the spot with the campfire is cleared, you're safe, and it'll most likely die out before the jungle has a chance to regrow. If the campfire is on grassland, the only way to minimize risk of a flare-up is to extinguish the campfire with liquids, same as you did with the wildfire. So it is good to have a supply of water ready to go for these.

Grassland fires are difficult to contain, because you can't clear around them, so always try to save grassland first, if it's in the area. It seems that something was tweaked that reduced the way that grasslands burn as opposed to jungle, but either way, focus on them first and it'll save you in the long-run.

If you ever get the itch to hunt down firestarters, train up your tracking skills and track from the campfires. The most recent tracks are the likely culprit and you'll usually find them hiding nearby.

Anyhow, fire-fighting will most likely always be around to some extent. Most of us get burned out after clearing a few major ones and move onto something else. And some simply do it on occasion without actually being in the group.

Hope this helps.
