It turned out a lot better than the Battle of Kingston in 1777 at which time, the British arrived and burned most all of the city and it's wheat to the ground without a fight.

(The pict of the recently restored steeple in Downtown Kingston (technically in the 'Rondout-waterfront district), New York is actually next door and I see it from my bedroom window. Every year we get a lot of very happy British reenactors here reminding us how we ran like flustered school children and let them destroy the entire city.)

Sometimes they say that history is based on what was said and written. If that is the case Phil's whining is a good measure about just how well we did. Do you whine and complain if you are winning? I think not.

June 15th will be remembered as the day the Merc's were driven from Raktam by loyalty, strength, passion and a overwhelming need to stop that foul smell of men who do not bathe.

Monaliza kicked your . Baraka is about even between kills and deaths. If you count in all the civilians, then might be but keep in mind that most of them weren't interested in fighting back.

You left without a single coin from Raktam. That is a victory for me.

As victories go, that's a pretty poor one. You appear to have missed the point by quite a wide margin. We weren't fighting the Royal Court, although it was Monaliza's actions that brought the attack about, and primarily Court members that mounted the active. We were attacking Raktam. And whilst it would have been highly amusing to have been paid off a day before the attack was due to finish anyway, that too was never part of the original plan. My lads had a job to do, they came, they saw, they handed Raktam its , then they left again. That's what they do.

It was indeed a masterful strategy, to wait around being killed for a week until the attackers withdrew as per the contracted timetable. That's one for the Raktami Book of War.

I think as a raid, it was successful and I'd fairly give it to the mercenaries over the Raktamis. But the mercenaries knew when to pull out and call it a day before the Royal Court had a chance to rally and work in teams, get allies (there was no call out to Dalpok or Wiksik for help, nor to friendly outsider organisations which might have sent assistance, nor to cannibal mercenaries), and kill the mercenaries before they got near Raktam. I query how they would have gone in a prolonged war.

It was a very different proposition however to when the GSUC basically sacked Raktam, leaving no one alive for very long for months, and the Royal Court in total disarray for a year after it ended.

It clearly also wasn't the sort of win to the Raktamis which we saw in the Battle of the Pirate's Graveyard, where they crushed the pirates in a pitched battle.

It would have been very interesting indeed to watch a prolonged war. especially if their home shaman and roamer were continuesly killed. If the Court had about another couple days to organize though i think the mercs would have lost.

I don't understand, how would Phil have gotten the gold?  If that was your goal, you need to set your sights higher, because that trip to Raktam costs Phil a good deal of coinage.

Exactly. And Ahnaom has mentioned that a few times, mercs cost money.
My goal was to defend the village, to drive the attackers away without yielding to their demands and paying anything. And we succeeded in doing that.

There, screenshot from our forum. We were payed for a week, we stayed there a week. If we had been payed for longer, we would have stayed longer. It's as simple as that. Now, I don't doubt that the Royal Court could have pulled something off had we stayed longer, but we'll never know for sure since time ran out and most of us left. (Some are staying to squeeze a little more coinage from Alpha's killer, but our business with the court is done.)

Honestly, hope you have no hard feelings. My job is done, and any grudges I carried expired the same time the contract did. (SOFAKIIIIING!) The proverbial ball is in your court now.
