The heavy sword is a crutch.

I'll use these crutches until they break and then I'll begin pummeling with my nubs.

No, it's just a different way of playing. It's a good thing we're not all the same.

According to the Game News:

Quote
5 January, 2007 - Balanced stance alteration

* Melee weapons will now show 45% again instead of the 60% that Balanced Stance gave before. Since this skill doesn't actually give you 15% to hit at the normal damage, it has been removed from the normal melee weapon display. In addition to the 45% shown, you will also get the 15% @ 1 damage that the skill provides.

Although it may have been upped since then. If it hasn't, then Wooden Clubs are superior to Machetes:

Quote
Machete/cutlass + Glancing Blow

50 attacks @ 45% = 22.5 hits
22.5 hits @ 3 damage = 67.5 damage
27.5 misses @ 15% = 4.125 hits
4.125 @ 1 damage = 4.125 damage
Total = 71.625 damage

71.625 damage/50AP = 1.4325 DpAP

Wooden Club

50 attacks @50% = 25 hits
25 hits @ 3 damage = 75 damage

75 damage/50AP = 1.5 DpAP

Heavy swords are, of course, superior to both, but it's a play-off between that and the effort required to find them. I don't mind earning them, but I rarely have the patience to find them, and you should never rely on them.

As I've said previously, I've found four since version 2 was launched - although I've given them all away since I decided to retire the character - and the search rates seemed the same as ever to me.

I'm with Neil. I use a club. Relatively easy to procure and don't break as easily as the HS.

The few times I have spent in swamps searching have proven to be a very dull exercise.

What?

stat stuff

If you take into account search rates, I think machetes go back on top... they are freaking everywhere!

I was going to include some search odds stats but I couldn't find them... anyone know where you can find them by item, if that exists on the wiki?  I could look at location, but nothing lists wooden club...

For that you would need to look at the terrain pages, there is some there, though not much and most likely not accurate at all.

Does anyone have any heavy swords for sale or trade?  I need two of them.

Thanks in advance.
