For a fee characters with peaceful intentions can use the gates left behind by sacred space to move to a town of their choice. If they are not they get the message You make an offering at the portal and close your eyes. Upon opening them again you find yourself in <town of choice> The destinations appear as extra buttons with "Offer x gold to go to y" Fees (suggested) Character level * 10 gold - Towns of the same type (ergo natives to native towns) Character level * 15 gold - Towns of a different type (ergo native to outsider towns) Optional Extra New Item : Gold Coin Charm Positive Effect : 10% chance to half the cost for transportation Negative Effect : Reduces the chance to find gold coins

Interesting.
Counter proposal: Make them into Spirit Gates that allow spirits to travel between towns.

As a living person, that would make it too easy to get the trading XP bonuses and so on. Also, where would be the challenge in getting goods from one town to another?

Unless I'm misunderstanding things, the cost of traveling through the gates would make it not worth going just to trade. You'd be losing money.

It could be gamed with a low level character.
SkullFace's idea has more merit - but it's also problematic in allowing people to move across the island very easily. Die say in Derby, use the spirit gates to travel to Durham, then revive via the nearest roamer.
I get the feeling that the idea behind the suggestion is to make inter settlement travel easier. That's certainly worth considering, but not via this idea.

Well for low level players it allows easy trade exp. But for higher ones? They'd have to build up a large amount of goods to make a profit. It also means lower level players can pay and put a mark on their maps where the settlements are. Interesting.
Counter proposal: Make them into Spirit Gates that allow spirits to travel between towns.
I like this idea, but I would put a price on it (peaceful only still + either exp or gold), otherwise spirits would be too powerful (yep, that's coming from a necro). Also it could prevent "roam revives" for 4 days after use?

I like the original idea, but the character level in that calculation should be capped to 10. Otherwise it makes currently nearly useless skills like digging actually harmful to your character.

Useful platform for a raiding launch. Don't kill anyone for a week and then have ten characters suddenly plop into, say, York and decimate the place with high AP. I don't think that's fair.
Spirits make a bit more sense.

I think that can be easily extended to the spirits: 10 ghosts wailing in York. Besides, spirits paying gold look a bit silly.

The gold should prevent that. It'll take a good deal more work to save up the gold than it would to walk down.

I've seen this sort of thing in Archlord. I'd much rather have vehicles.

If you get only 2 blowpipe or melee skills, you can already do a lot of damage during the raids. And the cost would be only 20 gold. All you need is an organised group of people knowing this fact. Seems a bit exploitable. Maybe add a minimum required level to use the gates? Level 5?

Perhaps the skills should be weighted accordingly.

Maybe the fact that Simon has already said:

Should be listened to? The only response seems to ignore what Simon said and make some reference to this being of benefit to low level characters. Sure, that would be the case, but it doesn't stop the two problems that Simon observed:
* Too easy to get the trading XP bonuses (level, smhevel, it's still too easy) * Where's the challenge in getting from one town to another?
I'm still not sure what the purpose behind this suggestion even is beyond finding a use for the sacred space gates...
