Mornin there ladies and gents.
I was just a-thinking as is my wont and it occurred to me that our beautiful wiki is rather out of date and disorganised.
So I was thinking if we all got together and spent a little time we could really do it up nice and pretty like.
Really work on making it easy to use and flavourising it.
Things like images for weapons and items, a unique page for each item, animal and skill with a full description and all known facts.
Better links to utilities like the ubermap and greasemonkey scripts.
Pages for tile types and well linked lists to the items found on them.
Links to player projects such as stories and timelines in more obvious places.
Most of all, more flavour tutorials ^_^
Who's in?

I think I can help with this endeavor, maybe adding some flavor text to certain skills/clan pages.
I may need some help with formatting...if I run into problems I'll inform you guys.
But I agree that the wiki needs some updating. I'm much better off with imagery than actual raw data though, so I'll try to do my part.

I can write up a few things but I have no idea how the formatting and linking stuff works. If someone can come through and make my pages look pretty then I'm in.

The problem with the wiki is that a lot of the information was written early on in the game by people keen and with the time to add and change content on the wiki. There is much that needs addition and changing. Images (used with the appropriate permission) would add a lot to the presentation of the wiki.

I would love to help, but I have absolutely no idea how to edit things on wiki...
I was thinking that I'd be nice to see current people putting up journals on there... the ones up are interesting but very out of date.
Maybe one of you who is wiki-editing savvy could have a page on their to help the rest of us improve the wiki? Haha a wiki page on the how to use the wiki...

Since I have no idea how to actually do it myself, I think the skills need to be broken up into various classes, in an effort to add some more to them and add some flavor text to give the wiki some flair.
Here's the ones I think should be their own pages.
Language skills Close Quarter Combat skills Body Building and Stamina Spirit Skills Exploration Skills Survival Firecraft Clan Leadership Psychic skills Haggling Digging Agriculture Native only skills Outsider only skills Triage skills Settler/Villager skills Soldier skills Warrior skills Explorer/scout skills Shaman skills Scientist Skills Cannibal Skills Pirate skills
All someone would need to do is create these pages for me, then I can go through and make them pretty. Would take a while, but I could do it.

I can help with overall pathing and organisation. I've found that link below pretty useful as well. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:HelpSo how do people want the wiki organised?

I agree on this, and although stuff haven't been edited in years, most of the information currently on the wiki is still relevant, since not much has changed. I've been meaning to start on something similar but don't have the time yet. It is outdated in the sense that it lacks plenty of new things, like wildfire. I'm up for helping. Let's get things organized, since Neil is on the right track. First off, we need researchers to research... stuff. Like what are the average find rates in various places these days, are they still the same as before? We all know heavy swords can be found in swamps but what are the new find rates? And perhaps the NG could divulge the contents of their research as well. The information written on the wiki is as Johan said, written by people who loved the game and had time to research and write on it. Consider them the pioneers on Shartak As for formatting... you could just look for some of the pages that carry the table/whatever you want and copy-pasta with a little editing. I did that for the heavy sword page

It looks good. I corrected a minor type and added a category, which I think might help with creating an index of this updated information.
