This idea has been around forever, thanks to Cyadora and others I cannot remember, yet no official forum thread that I can find. I will list all the ideas for these custom items as I can remember, so feel free to add/correct any ideas:

Custom Items:
These special items will have to be paid for in either an insane amount of gold or RL cash. (possible lucky charms if sent to jaqs) Edit: Looks like both in-game and real cash will be used. Pricing will be set ultimately by simon and jaqs, but feel free to discuss.

These will not add anything to the game other then RP flair. "Noahsan hits Anthor with a club of fail for 3 hp. They die."

Items will weigh the same and do the same amount of damage/healing. (you never know... I could want a FAK of sexiness)

If these weapons should be unbreakable or not is up for debate, but I think a price guide could fix that along with what type of weapon/item you can get. A gold coin could only cost $1 while a heavy sword that will never break could cost $50.
Unbreakable Items are out of the question. If you don't want it to break just don't use it.

The items should not be able to be sold at the traders hut, but still able to give to others.

Flavor text could also be added for more $$$  "Anthor stabs Twist with a rusty fork for 2 hp. They die of tetanus." Simple yet fun.

1. Does dropping the customised item (by accident or on purpose) result in losing it same as normal items?
Yes
2. Do people see customised items in your profile "Carrying: Skullcrusher (a heavy club)" or is it purely for those you interact with?
See http://forum.shartak.com/index.php/topic,2650.msg75601.html#msg75601
3. Can you have more than one customised item at a time?
Yes. Custom items will still take the same amount of space in your inventory and you could choose to have all custom items on you.
4. Can you give a customised item to someone else?
Yes

Sorry, but I don't like this idea at all.

Unbreakable heavy swords?  Really?

No.

I think Etherdrifter had a similar idea, but was shot down for pretty much the same reasons.

I thought Simon was against the idea that paying players would get in game advantages over others.

Well as i said unbreakable is up for debate. I am pretty sure I could give Simon 500 bucks and he would give me an unbreakable sword, but that $500! I don't think anybody here would be at the financial freedom to do that.

He is against player advantages, as far as I can remember. He'll even strike you down with lightning if he gets bored.
I'd just like the custom item names and possible flavor text. But, there is still the risk of people abusing it like:

Quote
Some villager attacks with you a severed penis for 2 damage.

Still, not half-bad. But, maybe the unbreakability is a little too much.

I'd be interested in the results of a poll on who would be willing to pay money for in game advantages.

I've seen this done in really crass, odious ways in other games (one of them just looked like a money filter to me and was awful) but if it was paid customisation of a character or weapon with no skills advantage then perhaps it wouldn't be quite so offensive or unfair.

and you get herpes.

How about you can pay lots of gold to be able to name all of one type of weapon you have (Or money).  If you have heavy swords, you spend the money or gold, and whenever you have a heavy sword you can call it anything you want to (I.E. Sword of Light, Excaliber).

Well it looks like unbreakable is out of the deal, but oh well.

As far as naming crap and to prevent weapons like "A flaming wang" that either a word filter be put in place for the naming process or Simon or Jaqs would have to approve each weapon which would get very taxing for them.

Also a poll has been created in terms to pay for the customized item

Yes, of course, the names would have to be approved by Simon.

Why do I look at those results and, when I see that one person has voted for 'special' favours?, do I think 'Neil Tathers'?

He wants custom pecs.

The idea of paying gold coins for customisation is an interesting one...

Gold sinks are needed. Customised named items, a tattooist at the wreck (suggested ages ago), inns where you can pay to sleep (gain AP more quickly) or something. Anything to give gold a purpose and to create something of an economy.

Paying real cash for player advantages is the last thing we need. Devs might feel otherwise though.
