You put a piece of driftwood on the fire and watch as it catches light.

It would appear the latest update has been implemented. I've put five pieces of driftwood on the fire, and apparently:

The campfire is looking quite healthy but another piece of wood wouldn't hurt.

There is a blazing campfire here.

So now I'm sat by a blazing campfire, scratching my arse and wondering what happens next. Anyone think to bring some marshmallows?

EDIT THE SECOND: My curiosity got the better of me:

You have to click it a few times to get it right.
It says this when successful: "You strike the sharpening stone and ignite the tinder. You add a piece of driftwood to the flames to get the fire started."

You need exploration in order to get it.  I'm a soldier, and I got it, so Soldiers can get it.

If I am not mistaken, that is a universal skill branch, so yes, everyone can get them.

Captain Jacobi just made a fire. Guess I need to keep a firemaking kit on my person from now on (Tinder, Driftwood/Deadwood, Knife/Dagger, Sharpening Stone) so animals won't attack me and I can cauterize my wounds.
