Those are always present.
So Neil, during his trek through the caves, (OOC And my vacation) died by the hand of rats. But he, for a moment anyways, was helped out by a Phollo con Phatats. So he sends out his thanks.
And he'll be heading back into the caves once he restocks.

is it just me, or are the rats multiplying quicker than usual? my recent travels through the caves left me clinging to life once i reached the open air, and on several occasions i was met with 5+ rats on one square!

Rats have always multiplied like that, it's just with the recent outlook currently on the island of killing people instead of animals, they are sticking around longer than usual.

Met Paul Bunyan in the Med hut yesterday, and instead of healing his victim, I tried to take him down before he could kill his victim, and that was a mistake. Violence begetting violence as I always say, he killed a poor defenseless native, and I could have saved the man's life, but no, I go for petty revenge.
Life teaches us harsh lessons, and now another soul is now on my shoulders.
I'm heading back into the caves, and hopefully this sojourn will enlighten me.

Perhaps some enigmatic overlord is preparing for an invasion of the upper side. My bet is that there really is a hive of Formians hidden down there who have been training the rats as an animal army. Along with the Giant Spiders, they'll sweep into a town, taking out anyone outdoors, and keep the Shaman dead and patrol around the area for anyone trying to come to the rescue while their masters slaughter or inslave anyone indoors. I'm afraid I'm working to defeat all the wandering Shamen in ritual combat right now, so I can't head down there and try to curb their numbers, though I honestly would like to. |

Some hints, bring FAK's (or herbs if there are natives coming) to combat the poison, and bring bullets (or darts) to take down the spiders.
Going toe to toe with a spider with just a machete is extremely dangerous for new adventurers.
I'll try to get closer to Derby.

So, I am at the peak of a waterfall, watching my first, and hopefully last, Wiksik headhunter ritual. It involves lots of chanting, drinking, smoking and dying.
