I was mostly joking about the laser pistol.

Do the guards say funny stuff when you hit 'em?

Don't answer that; I'm about to check.

Edit:
You say "Nice face you ----"
You swiped at the guard with a ballistic knife, but missed! The guard fires a laser rifle at you and shouts "You will pay for that, perp!", for 10 hp damage.

Okay, their wit could use some work, but that's nothing a couple rounds of poker fueled jabbing can't fix.

I'm still thinking about adding the laser pistol, even though Mencken was joking about it.

Killy, I'm planning to add randomized speech along with randomized attack text... it's just not in place yet (right now it only allows for one per npc).

Mutant Guards are definitely mean AND ugly, Neil.

Which character? (PM me if you want it to stay private). I'll delete it and try recreating the character. I can't see anything stopping you from logging in, other than perhaps a password issue.

Somebody needs to bring some butt related humor onto the scene to stop the noble Space Marines.

You know that faint mood when your mouse takes several wrist flicks to move the cursor across the screen?

That's what the hunger system feels like.

Hunger's easy enough to avoid because it drops so slowly. Change the tileset to something other than that damn shintolin look, add a quick tutorial, and fix the skill set up so I don't have to become a 'space marine' to kill things. Otherwise it's great.

Speaking of great things,

Anthor, with all due respect, don't lose the forest for the trees.

In terms of game design. Trees are cool. But not exactly science fiction, unless they can thrive without atmosphere.

Have you been out of the central biosphere yet? The tiles change from natural to space station as soon as you leave the center area. Also, there's a lot more to come! Tongue

On the other stuff, I'll post more later...

Sweet, though the biodome is huuuuuge. I hope the villages have express boundaries that set clear limits for the starting player's benefit. I found the sense of exploration too tempting.

Also, I probably should post this on the official forum, but what are the chances of "randomly" or fractally generated maps (using rampaging nanobots as an excuse)? Something along those lines could lead to projecting entire planets. I'm mentioning this because I've been working on a personal project that happens to be an astrochemical geography simulator (where ferrous alloys and silicon are as common as nothing and hydrogen) disguised as a graphical text game. Something like Dwarf Fortress on acid.

Yeah, one of the problems I see currently is that I don't have a tutorial for the new players. People that have played Shartak, UD, NW/NC and Shintolin obviously have an advantage over those who haven't played a grid based or open ended rpg. It IS very tempting to go exploring!

The random or fractally generated maps are a great idea... Especially for large expanses of land, or individual planets, asteroids, etc... Leaving me to the time consuming task of planned maps for stations and planet bases. It would make for some really interesting exploration, and a way to get more locations up and running faster.

Of course, now I need to figure out how to do it. Damn you Killy, and your mind gnawing suggestions! Tongue

PS. What are you using to make your simulator? And Cool Beans!

Oh ! Sorry for leaving you hanging like that. I coded it in C++, but I also find python efficient for some needs. My own skills can't compare to your's or Simon's, both of whom are true gurus, b-but I practice a lot, dearest masters! Give me time to grow!
