*Xeron switches on a microphone and speaks to the assembled crowd*

"Recently, various York groups have been claiming large amounts of territory in the name of York. However, the issue is that York has no real government to govern this territory by.
Many people believe Serious Sam to hold something akin to this position, unfortunately, however, if he were to become a dictator it might inhibit his ability to make accusations of tyranny and corruption in enemy leaders. The same problem would occur with virtually any of the various patriot groups involved in this.
Naturally, due to the reasonable number of PKers in York, a democratic government could easily meet with problems.

As such, as a Yorksman with similar interests to those of groups such as the Greater Shartak Unification Coalition, I, Xeron, will be taking on the burden of governing the township of York and most likely the various conquered areas. While dealing with the issues we face will be a daunting task, I will take up the challenge for the sake of my people.

As emperor of York, I will be forced to find ways to appease the angry conquered peoples of Wiksik and Creedy. Rest assured that I plan to find a solution which will satisfy the needs of both sides and will bring about peace and prosperity during my regime.

Now, before the leaders of the conquered peoples raise unconditional objections to my coming to office, I would like to propose engaging in negotiations over the fate of these areas, and I hope to be able to do so as civilly and as peaceably as possible. Please, do not make assumptions about how little I am willing to compromise.

I would also hope to be able to engage with similar talks with those who would not wish me to compromise, those who wish to see the island united under the flag of York no matter what the cost and no matter what the violence. I would hope to address them as one Yorker to another.

In any case, rest assured that I do not intend to plunge the island into anarchy and darkness as some may believe: I will make certain that my regime is a time of peace and prosperity that will be remembered for years to come, and that people all across the island will look at us and be envious of our stability and strength.

*The crowd bursts into a riot of applause as Xeron waves*

...Or else.

I will now be accepting questions from the press. Please be civil. Anyone who cannot hold their tongue will have it cut out of them.

A message from Justice Hart of York:

Quote
Dear Xeron

Re: your recent claim to an imperial throne of York

Thank you for your recent note.

As you are well-aware, York is a libertarian free town. Emperors, kings, monarchs, satraps and caesars make poor target practice for York fighters, primarily because French patisseries broaden the buttocks of such pretenders, and so make the target too easy a challenge to hit.

For you, however, we will make an exception.

So, in essence, your pasty, ripe buttocks will the subject of machetes, bullets, cutlasses, shovels and riflebutts for the foreseeable future.

Indeed, I encourage like-minded people to inflict the final, death-dealing blow to you using a riflebutt, or flat of the shovel, to the arse.

You shall henceforth be addressed as "Xeron the Lardy, Emperor of York", as you are cut down by a multiplicity of York citizens, and your corpse left for rats and vultures.

Upon formally, and inevitably, renouncing your claim to imperial status, you shall be known instead as merely "Xeron Shovelbutt". York's citizens are famously connosieurs of laconic humour, and I personally thank you for the opportunity to again indulge in this.

Xeron, being a Durham Citizen cannot become a ruler of York.

And just like Bellamy, he won't be able to stay in York for very long.

People like Serious Sam, Justice Hart and the patriots have kept York safe for longer than many can remember.

Indeed very few have seen as much action in defense of York as these individuals. As Justice said York will not see any attempt at rule. We have an understanding that will see us continue to prosper for the foreseeable future. Please refrain from sad attempts at conquest that you cannot back up.

Mistah Xeron, Mistah Xeron, *holds out a microphone* what is are your respective policies towards organized native groups (such as the Headhunters and KOS), York paramilitary groups (such as GSUC and 1CM) and pirates?

Claiming ownership of York? Pffft.

One does not simply claim to be York's government, you get told you're it on common consensus for drawing the short straw, as my fellow 5punkers found last year even though we never asked for or wanted that role. It's a terrible job.

Now, it seems as if there's been much opposition to the formation of any sort of government in York. Largely by "police", but... I'm just not going to touch on that.

Anyway, due to the vast public disapproval, I'm willing to offer to step down and disband the York government. There is no catch and no price except for the fact that this will, naturally, leave York without a government, which is evidently what you wanted anyway.

So, what do you say?

Somehow, I suspect that an election in York would equal a lot of killing.

How is that different from York's usual state?

As a York born and raised son, i cannot say they dont need a government system of some kind. I for one live in Durham because of the lawlessness there- but it is truly the wild west in Durham. York however is the center of the outsider world here, it needs to be civil. It needs to be a place where great minds from Durham,Derby,Port Breton,New Berlin,New Bristol and the Shipwreck to gather and exchange goods and wisdom.

Keep Durham wild, clean up York.

York works because no one claims to be in charge. Things just get done. Its actually an anarcho-communist state.
