As stated on the talk page, the literary influences are fairly obvious:

In spite of the bias towards male characters I'm happy with it so far, there's a wee vein of grim humour in there.

Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!

“I’m an Indian tonight, baby,” he announced. “C’mon, let’s let ’em have it.” Then he dumped a pickle jar of change on the floor, told her to get a machete, and went out to the garage.

Indeed! Everybody knows natives evolved from shargles. Thats common knowledge.

The flight was heavenly
the sky my ocean
As I soared beyond the clouds
and golden voices called me home
You asked "Do you believe in love?"
and I shook my head
So, your sins unto me as I fall down
never to return from this land
My wings are clipped, my voice stilled,
Goodbye.

Uh, no, I was thinking of how Natives came to the island from another land, and it was then much as it is now. The Shargles were already here when we came, and it is believed that they're unique to this island, so we couldn't have evolved from them.
I suppose it's possible this story is actually about that mysterious land we came from, and has simply been misinterpreted as this.

Patience. All will be revealed.

OOC: Writing in the style of another author is hard work. Pulp authors had a distinctive voice and it takes time to rework a story.

No, no, no.

Many of the Shargles have a pattern in their feathers that looks like a stylised set of letters - a lower case i and an upper case G.  Some of us know who that logo belongs to - but how did that logo end up on the feathers of a bird that according to the natives, has been on the Island at least as long as they have known of the paths up into the mountains?

1. Where did you get this information?
2. Actually, the Shargles were here long before the Natives arrived. Apparently, there was something of a war between the two groups, after which the Shargles either went up higher on the mountains that we could get or went into some sort of hibernation-type state, and reemerged for some reason more recently, most likely due to the appearance of the outsiders, or at least connected with that.
