Granted it IS for life. Still, there is something disturbing about the concept.

I forsee a future where services and utilities are only available to the highest bidder.

actually, if you follow the trends everything is getting cheaper. That's the good thing about not having monopolies.

I've been saying for years that cell phones would start charging a flat rate for all calling no matter what, and now they have.

I guess this internet won't be available in Holland... Although it would be funny to make a bid and winning. Then he will have the problems of giving me the high-speed internet.  Grin

Well.

It's gonna go over 35k.

So today will most likely be my last bid.

You actually bid on it? Did you read the small print?

If Charter are sold to another company within a year, you get a two thirds back, if it's within 2 years, you get a third back, if it's after 3 years, you get nothing from Charter and from what I could see the new company doesn't have to give you anything either! Bit of a con if you ask me.

As a scam it's not that bad, Charter's setting itself up to gain money via the auction to expand. It'll use that money to buy notability, where it'll try to merger with a bigger company. Regardless, selling the rights will, in fact still be money for the big wigs at Charter at minute cost to them, and no cost to the company that works with them. So your investment is banking them for something else. BETTER then that, even if they never sell, your still on a lifetime plan of DSL or something, which gets slower as we up-grade, meaning that all this money your putting in now, in ten years might be a life-time of what results to dial-up.

All in all, it's sound so long as NOTHING changes. As lifetime deals go, I'd rather have the 1987 life-time supply of twinkies that was won.

Humm, my guess is your.. penny59y from Wenatchee, WA. Right?
